Impedence query

Hi, I have a question hopefully someone in basschat land can help with. I have a 4 ohm 2 x 10 cab and want to get another. However the only ones that seem to be on the market at the moment are 8 ohms. If I went ahead and purchased an 8 ohm speaker could I run it with the 4 ohm speaker. What would be the resulting collective impedence and would I need to connect them to the amp in series or parallel or does this matter at all?

Thanks in advance

Steve

I'm assuming your amp requires a minimum of 4 ohms.

Connecting 8 ohm and 4 ohm cabs in parallel will give you 2.7 ohms and will be bad for your amp.

Connecting them in series will give you 12 ohms, which will be fine (for a solid state amp) but you'll need a special set of cables for such a connection and you'll get a lot less power output, so there really is no point in this at all.
