Only really started playing Bass seriously a few months ago, after 20-odd years of 6 stringing. Did a little thing today and wondered if you kind peeps would give me any pointers where I'm going right/ wrong?

Well I'm always a sucker for the influence of that band. Sounds fine to me. At least you haven't fallen into the trap a lot of guitarists do and play the bass like a guitar. A nice simple line and it fits perfectly. Nice playing all round. Good job.

Not sure which band you mean. Thanks, I'm making a very conscious effort to learn Bass as a bass player. It might have strings and look similar, but is after all a totally different instrument and I want to try and play it properly.

Again, thanks. Seem to be going through a chilled phase atm. Probably something to do turning 40 a while back and the new littlegreenwoman ;)

Really like the clip and playing (bits of the solo have a real petrucci/satch vibe). The vibe from the tracks is great as well.

The only thing I noticed is that the recording is clipping pretty heavily. Could be an idea to have a look to see whats causing that, whether it's actually on the recorded tracks, or what I think is more likely is that the track's are individually a bit high, so when everything hit's together, it's clipping the master buss.

Thanks, I try and see what happens...

Still learning about DAW stuff, I tend to just press go and bodge the results. I'll look at better mixing in future, thanks for the tips :D

I'm very much only learning about it myself as well, the more you learn the more you realise how little you know!

What you could try doing as a quick fix is putting a limiter over the master buss, and setting the max ceiling at -0.3, this should stop any clipping occuring, albeit at the expense of squishing your track when the big bits hit in.

So, I are haz done a new tune. An 80's themed ballad for the CBC 80's challenge. Not sure if anyone here takes part in Jude's Coconut Blues Club monthly challenges over at Soundclick? If not, very worth joining in if you like composing. It's just about making new music, no competition, no prizes, just having fun with tunes :)
