WITHDRAWN Fender Geddy Lee Jazz with Shuker custom neck

I got this very recently on a trade thinking 'I really fancy a nice Jazz' and nice it is! It's so lovely to play and sounds superb, really growly, that superb 70's honk from the bridge p/up too. Tried it at a practice earlier this week and was really impressed with the sound!

What I really need however is a fretless Jazz and this is far too nice to leave in it's bag for special occasions as my Lakland 5'er gets the regular 'workaday' use...

The following description is from McGraham (previous and first owner)

"It was originally an actual Fender Geddy Lee model Jazz bass, the body; control plate; electronics; pickguard; strap pins and neck plate are still totally stock. (Black finish, alder body etc...)

The new (Shuker) neck is identical in shape, profile, nut width, fret size, blocks, binding, scale length, etc (even down to the degree of gloss and tinting on the neck, the original is a vintage tint somewhere between matte and gloss, not fully one or the other - Shuker cloned it perfectly) except for the following differences:
- 21 frets not 20 - so it gives the highest note as an E rather than an Eb as on a normal 20 fret jazz bass
- 16" radius - flatter radius so bends don't fret out
- graphite reinforcement - haven't needed to adjust the neck once... all the comfort of the original geddy neck, none of the fuss = epic win.
- slightly fuller shoulders, so slightly more D-like neck profile rather than uber shallow C.
- 3 over 1 tuner arrangement rather than 4 inline - this was to reduce the overall length of the bass and get it to sit better on the body (the original one was too neck heavy for my style of playing).
- The Geddy signature was traced and lasered onto the new headstock rather than leave it blank

Mr Shuker also made a ramp in matching gloss tinted maple that pressure fits inbetween the pickups and works rather nicely actually (my first time with a ramp and I kinda like it).

Other improvements made:
Badass bridge was swapped out for a Schaller bridge that is extremely adjustable (from 22mm spacing to 14/15mm). (New Schaller 2000 4S bridge about £100)
Hipshot ultralites tuners
Pickups swapped out for DiMarzio Model J's - epic epic pickups. They sound great through anything. (New Dimarzio model J pickups also about £100)
Control setup to have a master volume, rotary pickup selector and a tone as opposed to two volumes and a tone."

There are a few dings and scrapes (nothing out of the ordinary for a 9-ish year old bass). The worst is through to the wood on the bottom curve near the strap button (see pics) and another smaller one adjacent, a couple of other minor marks and some very slight buckle rash on the rear and a tiny indented mark in the lacquer on the back of the neck which I don't notice when playing as it's higher up than my thumb sits on the back of the neck.

Only other slight issue of note is that the strap button near the bridge has been moved higher up the bass at one point and there are 2 strap button holes so I've put a second strap button in there a bit like you get with a status so you can choose your balance point down there.

This IS a players bass and not a museum piece (and has a couple of scars to prove it), it plays superbly and sounds brilliant. I listened to the lastest Rush DVD again recently and the sound is very reminiscent when played through my Genz shuttle!

Comes with a rather decent rockbag.

£[s]650[/s] 550 + shipping (am happy for buyers to arrange their own courier to ensure they get the best price)

Would prefer collection but could post if need be...

Offers and/or trades for a nice fretless considered (preferrably Jazz but not MIM though)

important bit is the pics so without further ado...

So all that remains of the original "Geddy" is the body and scratchplate?

Sounds like a lovely bass, but is it really a "Fender Geddy Lee" when there is so little of the original left?

Anyway - have a bump. These are brilliant basses whoever makes them!

I know what you mean  the original bits are the body and aesthetics really.

The new neck really does marry perfectly with the body, they sound superb together, it really works! Jon Shuker has done a brilliant job!!

Are the original parts (neck, bridge, pickups) still available?
I don't think so, you could ask Mcgraham what he did with them, I suspect they're long gone matey...

That's a very good price. These list at nearly £900 and there are hundreds of pounds worth of upgrades here.

Just as well I've already got one!
