P Bass Volume/Tone Question

Hi Folks,
I'm the proud new owner of my first Fender P Bass and very happy I am with it too.
I've noticed that if I have the volume set a full and the tone where I like it (probably about a third from the bottom) if I turn the volume down slightly I loose quite a bit of the midrange punch. The Bass has SD APB-1 pups.
Is this normal or not.
Thanks in advance,
Pete. B)

If it's a passive P the tone control cuts treble, it doesn't 'add' bass. So if you have the tone control anywhere else but full on you are losing signal, which is then exacerbated by turning the volume control down.

I leave both controls at full on my P for maximum signal and use the amp or pre-amp EQ to modify the tone and vol.

I for one never use the vol knob on mine P-basses for other purposes than 'mute'. If I need to setup the volume of my playing, I use 'Preamp Level' (Gain) and 'Master Level' (Volume) on my amp.
