Mackie SRM350 Line In

I've got a Mackie SRM350 that we use as an active monitor for the singer. It has a single XLR input and a push button switch between mic and line mode. It's taking one channel out from a powered mixer and a DBX equalizer.

At last night's gig I set it up as usual in line mode, but was getting nothing like the usual volume. In the end I reduced the signal from the EQ and switched the SRM350 to mic mode, which worked ok, although with more noise than ideal.

So, looks like something's gone wrong, I'm just surprised it's only one mode, not both. Has anyone come across this before - is it a sign of big problems, or easy to fix?

Sounds like what happens when one side of a balanced signal goes down, especially if the mic setting was noisy.

So it's a repair shop job? Tried different leads and mics. It's a combined 1/4" jack and xlr socket and I've tried both types of lead, no better either way.

Edit: found references to similar problems with SRM450s on the Mackie forum. If it's just a case of finding the back of the socket and resoldering the connection, I could probably do that. If it requires tracing a fault, maybe not.

Well you've nothing to lose by unscrewing the panel and taking a look - if it's just a solder joint then you've saved yourself a trip to the repairers. :)

I was desperate for one of these, but I've heard about too many problems to want one.

Perhaps you should have a look at this

RCF are more highly thought of in PA circles these days than Mackie of late.
