kurcatovium
Some of you might not know that GMR is luthier company from Poland with quite some similarities to Mayones or Maruszczyk and also other influences in their work (like Warwick or Sandberg). I bought this bass not so long ago mainly because I really digged the look. Unfortunatelly I more and more realise I can't simply switch between 4 and 5 string basses. And because 5 is being my main bass now this fact becomes quite uncomfortable to me - I put fingers on wrong strings all the time. So even though the look itself is fabulous it can't compensate my stupidity. This is Bassforce 4 Classic model, where Classic means it's bolt on (four screws). The workmanship is very, very nice. Everything is smooth and nice, the bass balances nicely due to extended upper horn and the lower one is good for practice while sitting. Neck is very comfy (think of slightly thicker jazz bass) and fast feeling. Overall condition of the bass is pretty good (I would say 8,5/10), there are couple of minor dings at headstock (see pics) and some maple discoloration here and there. The body has only few hardly noticeable minor scratches... Body is two piece mahogany with really nice grain and nicely matched together. Control cavity is shielded by aluminium tape and the cover is made from mahogany too. The neck is three piece maple with two rosewood stripes, matching mahogany veneer headstock (with another thin rosewood veneer between). Rosewood fingerboard with nice grain to it. Two octave 24 frets (medium/jumbo I'd say), side dot markers only. Black hardware: Schaller sealed tuners, hold in tune very well and the ETS bridge is awesome. It's high mass, has adjustable string spacing and simple quick release of strings. Electronics: Bassculture (some say it's "Nordstrand of Germany" and I have no reason not to believe) musicman style pickup in wood cover coupled with Noll 3-band electronics with push/pull volume for active/passive mode. Controls are volume, treble, middle, bass. The bass sounds like... like the bass with MM pickup, although it's not exact MM clone (which suits me well). The sound's not especially aggresive, but still could achieve nicely rounded growl. Nice thing about the preamp is it doesn't color the sound - the bass sounds very similar passive and active when set to flat (controls have center click). Controls have milder effect, you can't totally mess the sound by turning knobs. Spoombung
That's a very good price. I'd love one of these but unfortunately don't like the MM style pickup in that position...

GMR
Very nice bass. Quite rare set up. We remember it. It's a steal for this price :-). The company has moved entirely to England, so buy it now, before it becomes a real rarity, as some design changes are coming up.
