NOW SOLD

I've decided to put my 5 String custom made Jazz bass up for sale due to lack of use and an impending house move.

It was built by one of our forum members Bassdoc over ten years ago and I bought it just over a year ago from the original owner.

The electronics were originally active with black hardware but I asked Bassdoc to change it to the standard passive volume, volume, tone configuration. Due to this it could be easily converted back to active should you want to change it.

The strings are 17mm apart at the bridge.

The nut width is 45mm.

Schaller machine heads.

The original active circuit is now with the Bassdoc(basschat forum member) who did the modification from active to passive.

I've spoken to the Bassdoc and he says that the pickups are likely to be Fender from a period when they used used large pole pieces on the deluxe series(over 10 years ago).

I have owned a USA Jazz and a MIM Deluxe Active Jazz and it doesn't sound inferior to either of those basses.

The pick up route is standard 5 string Jazz

The bass measures 36" from the nut to the furthest edge of the bridge. The strings that are on the bass are D'Addario super long scale.

Weight approximately 5kg.

The E and the B strings have very similar tension and the others have slightly greater tension. This is my first 5 string but it doesn't feel like the B string flaps about.
It is probably the prettiest guitar I have ever owned and the action is really low and easy to play, I only wish it was 4 string as I can't get away with 5 strings and so it has been living in the garage for the last few months un-used which is a crime.

The condition is good for the year but you might pick up on the photos that the lacquer has cracked but this, according to the original owner, developed shortly after it was made and hasn't deteriorated over the last ten years. This can only be seen in when the bass is held at a certain angle to the light and I think it actually adds to the look of the guitar.

If you live local then please feel free to contact me for a trial at my place.

I could post in it's hardcase if required. It would be suitably bubble wrapped internally and I would tie-wrap the case to make sure that it couldn't open in transit. It's a big heavy guitar so I'm guessing at this stage that the postage costs would be about £25, although I'd be happy for you to arrange your own courier to collect if you could get a better deal or use someone that you trust. Of course collection would be the preferred option if you live nearby but failing that I have a friend travelling to Cambridge on the 30th of September and another friend working in the Chatham area of Kent Monday to Wednesdays and I'm sure I could arrange a drop off with them if required.

It comes with a hardcase.

Bassdoc tells me that it would cost at least £600 to make something similar today and so I am looking for £225.

Would consider trades for a 4 string bass with cash either way depending on what you have.
