I'm looking at fitting a set of EMG Jazz pickups into my squier vintage modified jazz bass and after much trawling of the interwebs found there is the discontinued soldered set still kicking about and the newer solderless set. [url="http://www.emgpickups.com/products/category/25/2"]http://www.emgpickups.com/products/category/25/2[/url] I've got no problems soldering, did it for years when I was a tech at a music college, but like the idea of the solderless connections for ease of swappping out pickups/cpntrols etc. I'd eventually like to swap out the controls for the EMG BTS system and routing a jack socket on the side of the bass. Has anybody used the solderless system? I've read good and bad things about the system, some saying that soldered connections will always be better and some saying it's genius. I'm definitely sold on the pickups themselves, just wasn't sure which version to get. Anyone got any thoughts? Valhalalf Posted September 26, 2011 Author Share Posted September 26, 2011 Well my EMGs arrived and are now fitted and I couldn't be happier. I gigged them Saturday night through my Ashdown ABM500 Head and they sounded amazing. Loads of punch and clarity with a modern sound, just what I wanted. The only downside was I couldn't fit the battery anywhere so had to fork out more money to have a luthier install a battery box in the back of the bass.
