Is it subject to a refinish at some point? And do the body and the neck go together? Body appears to all accounts to be a GL-1000? But headstock says SB-1. I thought SB-1s had a P bass like p'up? Far as I know it does go together... I had a fellow in here yesterday knows them well... he suspected it was diffenrent body all together but after examning he concluded tht indeed it could of been however; changed his mind when he saw the stamped body.. I will look close at the bridge design and stamp.. it could help you know it better... I apologize for not having the answers... See the wee dark dot on the back, in the heel of the lower horn? That's called it's birthmark by G&L us geeks - it's left over from the CNC stage in it's build. The back of the headstock has them too. I've never seen those odd infills between the neck and bridge before, I guess it could be a special run but my vote goes toward it being a home "improvement". The atypical way the finish has come away too suggests to me that it's had a home varnish job too as the thick nitro on these usually crazes quite dramatically if it's going to come off and doesn't really look like this. nig Posted February 19, 2011 Share Posted February 19, 2011 the early sb1 had 1 pup as shown and was a student instrument, the early sb 2 had 2 of the same pups as in the pic, later sb 1 became a better p bass with a slightly curvier waist line and the sb 2 became a p bass and jazz bass pup thingy, did that make any sense,,, no? thought not. nig Posted February 20, 2011 Share Posted February 20, 2011 Yes, the wunkay has a big MFD like the twokay, but its passive and mounted in the p bass p'up area, not the 'sweet spot' like the ray, climax or L1500. The p'up in the SB1 and SB2 sounds like a jazz pick up...ish. The later SB1, i have a pre lawsuit headstock one has the super mfd split p bass pup and a curvier body dimension, the LB 100 is a p bass in all but name with a std pick up. (lb stood for legacy bass) I like that little sb 1 on the bay, I think its a mahoghany body thats been stripped, I guess. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
