Wiring straight to jack.

I wired a Schecter straight to jack(via 2 pots,just wired it to earth on jack socket,maybe luck but no buzzing and havnt fried myself yet.

On a P bass the jack socket has two connection points.
One of them connects to the tip (stick a jack lead into the socket and you'll see which connection that is).
The other one connects to the 'sleeve' part of the jack plug - that's where your earth needs to connect to.

...if you can be bothered to solder it of course... :)
