When you say cheap "Electric Double Bass " do you really mean cheap "EUB-Electric Upright Bass" aka Stagg, Dean Pace etc? The Stagg is new around £375, s/h ones on here at around £250. Is that what you mean by cheap? A "cheap" Double Bass is a very different animal both to play and amplify and "cheap" as some of the threads above testify could be £400-500.
