Traditional jazz bass knobs

I have recently bought some Warmoth jazz bass knobs - but they don't fit on my pots. Apparently it's a metric vs imperial thing. The question is, I have got push on knobs as opposed to the Fender ones which have a set screw - will the Fender ones accomodate the larger shaft size. As best as I can measure, the pots I have (which I want to avoid changing as they are all surface mounted onto a PCB) are 1/4 inch... which appear to be just a little too large for the 6mm (?) knobs I have. I was playing a game of pot luck really because these aren't your normal pots - they are Japanese efforts from a hifi with plastic spindle (for isolation). Figured a project bass should have something different right?

I don't suppose anybody has some set screw US jazz knobs I could loan/beg/steal etc as I don't want to fork out for the genuine Fender ones if they aren't going to fit. Or failing that, could somebody tell me if their genuine US Fender knobs are 1/4 inch knobs by doing the jack socket test - place a jack socket into the knob... if it fits, it's 1/4".
