  1. Interested to hear the exact difference between the guitar version on the bass version on a bass obvs.

I'm after one that's on eBay ATM which has a added mid control.
Cause 3 isn't enough for me.

Ideally it'll sound exactly the same but with different EQ points.

    Noted :)
I've not tried an OCD, but I know the Demon has more gain to it. Ryan has also built a few LED clipping Demon's which come out slightly less compressed and a bit more lairy than the MOSFET clipping.

    p.s.
Do you play with pick or fingers?

Never really liked anything with mosfet clipping, inparticular the fulltone bass drive.

  3. As long as the bridge works and the truss rod works any bass can be setup "perfect". Depending in your personal tastes.

By that any bass can be made good, unless it is plain broke.

Quality to me is fit and finish really, how the tuners turn and the components used for the electrics.

Either way I'm sure I'll sound crap on almost anything I put ny hands on.

  4. My favourite threads.

For which I shall always suggest the Xotic BB preamp.

I have ny third coming in (although a clone) and I will be looking at getting the CS one on eBay that has an added mids EQ.

Versatile, great range on the gain knob, and low end for days.

edit- I like it so much I had to post twice.

I'd find out where he lives and piss through his letterbox.

But seriously; that's a bit of a downer. I also have a Shuttle, and I have a simple policy of point blank refusing to let anybody else use my gear unless they arrange it beforehand and/or I know them. It's a bit late for that now I suppose, but perhaps in future. As for not sticking around; I'm not surprised! I guess there isn't a great deal you can do. You could try find the bands Facebook page and contacting them, explaining the situation and asking if he would be okay with paying for the damage he caused with his own selective hearing, but I doubt you'd get particularly far unfortunately.

Out of curiosity, what was the venue?

Asking? Lol. I would be telling the monstrous twat he's paying for it.

Although lesson has been learned for next time.

I don't even trust my band mates with my stuff, let alone people I've never seen before.

  7. Fodera .obey as has been said can buy you next to anything you want.
And if you are spending that sort of dosh there are more than meets the eye out there.

Roscoes for example are seriously amazing basses.
Then there are actual builders you can pop in and say hello to and actually talk face to face so nothing gets lost in translation or miss understood.

As has been said. None of us know what you are after out of a bass, or even basses. So any suggestions are purely on opinion.

  8. Got the first finished Super Compact a week or so after the reveal on the site.

Still very happy with it, volume, tone and dispersion for days.

A massive improvement on previous compacts.

I can't remember when I ordered but I did change from a regular comps t to the new super one, and I'm ever thankful I did change.

I remember when I had my midget it arrived broken in transit (fork lift had cracked a front panel) and that too took a long tome to rectify, bit only because I basically had to wait for a whole new cab again, that gets put in anever growing que.

Hopefully the upgrades like the CNC machine and outsourced grills will start making an effect on lead times.

You could probably get a far better instrument custom made for the total cost of the bass and all that work. However attractive the mongrel might appear, there's a lot of risks in buying something that far from original - and that's over an above the risks in buying a 70's Fender full stop. The routs don't look all the clever for a start. You could open the case and get a bit of a fright

To get the bass you wnat it to be, you'd be far better of buying an MIJ Jazz with the neck and finish you want and getting Howard (Bass Doc) to install the P-PUP etc.

Don't say that, putting me off now haha.

Tbh I have a set price I won't go over and it's bot much more than what it is on now.
If it goes over I won't get it.

When I was an eBay trader for my sins I regularly had people message me saying, 'How can you be selling that at X? I saw it for Y at Z!' To which my reply was always the same - 'It's called capitalism - get over it. If you prefer the price that Z is offering, then f*** off and buy it from Z!' :)

Why people think that things on eBay should be cheaper than anywhere else, or why eBay traders should have to deliver items much, much quicker than anyone else is beyond me.

    So so so true.
Sold my famicom on eBay, with a best offer, this guy haggled me down to 85 from 100, but then 4 days after paying complained to eBay saying he hadn't received it yet.
He obviously won, so I put it up again and got more for it than I originally wanted for it.

I got fender uk to pay 1/2 toward a new neck out of warranty , so ifs it's new it should be covered, I'm sure you have ready but push and pesture, this is doing thier reputation no good

    Good luck

    Did you read the thread?

  12. It sounds to me people are exercising double standards.
Yes the guitars need to EQ, but a very valid point is that what sounds good alone may not be right for the mix.

This is probably exactly what is happening here.
You like sound A at home etc, but at rehearsals you can't hear it.
So go for sound B, which you don't like.

Sound B seems to be the sound right for the band.

  13. I think he has used the blackstar ID as they have them in the school he works at.
About the overall sound. In my mind I think he is just after something that has a natural overdriven tube preamp. I've used some kind of Marshall that has a tube pre and a tranny power amp and it sounded immense.

Will have better look at the blackstar.

  14. Been in various situations over the past too many to mention.

Now days I always tend to take my amp, use it for soundcheck and take it off until we play. No one has asked to use it since I started doing this but I wouldn't have a problem if someone did ask to borrow it, baring in mind of they came and spoke to me at least before we'd soundcheck. Even then it would be under the pretense that if you break it you pay for it.

Then again, I can lug all my stuff on and off stage in one go.
