1.
The acoustic trio Ive started gigging with split £200-300+ between three people per gig!

Most of ever had the chance to earn and its great.

The trick is to join a 3 piece! :)
Just declaring myself in!

    Wow at those prices.

I would say something but I dont want to open a can of worms.

  2.
I agree what your saying Stephen, but its just because ive wanted one of these for so long that I hate the idea of letting it go hahaha.

Im trying to get a cheap gibby bass sorted the noo also or a MIM fender. If I get one of these basses and I love it straight away then I know the Ric aint for me.
Just get another jag?

Gibby, as in Gibson ? You forgot what happened with the epiphone basses? There are no cheap and decent gibsons.
For example a friend has an SG by Gibson and it's nice I agree but it's no nicer or better sounding/playing than my £300 epiphone dot studio.

If I was you, I'd have a go on a roadworn, the rolled fingerboard feels great. The price and finishes or a different thing.
Or you can do what I've done, give up and get the same of what you love but different.

If you were to get a fender, I beg of you to not get a precision, for your own sake. No matter how well it plays it won't sound like a jaguar/jazz and you'll most probably move it on.

I wouldn't mind trying a RIC, but I haven't had any luck with passive basses for a while, also I'd prefer a blue one, like my dream bass from FLCL.

  3. I importedy ray second hand from the states.

After paying everything, I had it at home in a hardcase for less than £700.

I'd say before importing; check what you'll have to pay in duties first, also if it's from an online retailer always email and ask if they will send overseas, also I think it's worth making sure they add on the right cover for it aswell. Obviously it's more risky with more money. But I've imported hundreds of things from all over the world.

  4. I don't see it as a case of being used to the jag, so you can't fit with the RIC.

I moved the jag on after I got a stingray as the stingray just fitted me better, the neck, pickup position, overall sound. And I had the jag for nearly a year and played it exclusively. It was a case of no matter what I played it wasnt a jaguar so didn't fit the bill.

Now it's a case of it's not a stingray it won't fit the bill.

ATM I'm feeling that I'm extremely happy with what I have, so anything else is just going to be in the way.

  5. I recon when I'm buying I have a fairly high budget, however I'm picky and insist on my basses being White, like some kind of supremacist.

Selling usually because I don't need it, or want it. Basses get sold/traded for a change of scenery.
I've never made any money selling here, even though a few basses I brought here and sold back to BC members at a loss.

I also browse quite a bit when I'm bored incase something amazing comes up that I must have.
I feel this is where a lot of people get GAS induced offers from people, who then realise they can't afford it/don't need it.

  6.
I have been playing the Ric now as my main noodling bass and rehearsal bass and still cant connect with it.

    The Jag reigns supreme.

So what do I do? move on the bass that I have lusted for for so long? or keep it as a show piece!

I said to the wife that I should never have got it as the dream is never as good as the reality hahaha.
Want to trade for a big al? :)

Although I've just gone through this as you know with the BA.

  7. I get to use this setup this Friday at rehearsal so will get a chance to hear it at volume with the guys. Looking forward to it.

I'm surprised they haven't taken this 1 knob spectracomp and put it in a pedal, keeping the LEDs.

  8. Personally the only weigh you can get a bass(ier) sound out of a guitar amp, is more speakers, or larger ones.

For a time I used a orange ad120htc with 2 4x12, it sounded sweet but even with a huge speaker setup it still sounded thin in the lows compared to a full range bass amp.

I also realise than you could use bass cabs, however you'll struggle to find the right wattage to go with the amp head for it to be able to drive it enough while staying reasonable clean.

So then you next choice is bigger speakers but then you are moving away from the point of small.

I think you are fighting a losing battle. Bassists needs considerable watts to be reasonable clean and loud enough to be heard, even in quiet settings.

  9. Indeed the OTBs DI out is IIRC about 14 dbs above whatever the norm is. This maybe BS but IDK.

    Wow.

Anyway personally I think that the OTB is a very good match for the midget but you definatly won't get as much treble response than a more hi fi head, also if you end up needing more you just get another midget.

  10. It's the break angle on the string, between nut and tuning post.

The better the break angle the better the clearance from the first couple of frets, this is usually a cause of buzzing strings when played open.

More likly so since you haventhe drop D thing, as the post is usually taller than normal tuning posts, which means you need to make sure you have enough wrappings around the post.

  11.
'pop' bands??????? :)
Popular bands....

I hear tinie tempah is rolling around with an actual human bassist, since I saw him on jools holland before the album came out I thought that it would be cool to play for him, specially since the drummer is awesome and there is the occasional funky dub piece.

  12. I agree with your first point.
I guess that's why I like them... Maybe it's my treble guitar heritage, but for the music I play and the sound our band has it's great, you are supposed to hear as a separate interty but also hold in the low end.

Can't comment on point 2. Not tried hardly any jazz types and P types other than cheapo bargain ones.

  13.
I thought it was more that black just absorbs light instead of reflecting it, meaning it doesn't reflect the lightwaves needed to produce each of the specific colours.

It's also in the CMYK colour model, so it must be officially a colour :)

And on that note, we return to the OP... talk**** nonsense :)
Absorbing and non reflecting - absence of light, no?

What does favourite colour have to do with bass.?

  14. At the end of the day only you know what you want from a bass.

For me a stingray looks great, plays great and more importantly sounds great.
A Fender jazz looks great, but for ne isn't comfortable and the sound I dislike.
P's; well I think they look cheap and nasty and sound cheap and nasty.

Personal opinion please don't start flaming me guys :)

However I am hypocritical, as I would love to own a "great" fender jazz and precision just haven't found one yet.
Where as rays do it for me 9 times out of 10.
