1. I got the TruTron and Octave Divider a couple of weeks ago and finally had chance for a few fiddles with them.

The Tru Tron is sweeter than any of the other filters I've tried over the years. There are plenty of paramaters to adjust, but not too many, so you can go from extreme squelch, though distorted filter mayhem to mellow funkiness with ease. The sound seems to remain present in the mix with a few simple twiddles of controls which don't take long to learn. I particularly like how much sustain there is on the filtered notes. Most filters seem to close and die too quickly for my liking.

The Octave Divider is as glorious as ever and now in a smaller case and it behaves very well on guitar.

Our bass player got the same pedals too and this is what he says about the TruTron on bass:
Yes! the Trutron3x is f***in better than a Mutron III fact! Much more balanced between the up or down sweep parameter without having to change gain level at all. Loads more peak and synthy sound or as I now like to call it the chew or Chewbacca. Plus it goes crazy when you slam in the drive oh and it's blendable. Ugh!

AAA+ to Mike Beigel for bringing back the Mu

Is this the Elbow who defy all logic and are popular? Utter drivel - every last note.

I have to agree...maudlin and totally boring crud in my book...kind of like Coldplay in Slippers to me. Sorry!
Each to their own, of course.

3. www.discoprophets.co.uk will be performing at The Approach, Friar Lane, Nottingham, NG1 on stage from 10pm, two sets, free entry.

If you want to see a top line Disco band play live with three lead singers and plenty of vocal harmonies, nows your chance to come down and dance your socks off.
We play disco and funk inspired dance-floor classics from late 70s to present day.

Be there or be square!!

To me, the Meters are the ultimate funk band - just sublime. The album that that track opens, Rejeuvination, is excellent.
Here's one from the following album, Fire on the Bayou - brilliant laid back funk, and introducing a bit of synth:

Love Slip Upon Ya is a killer tune from that LP too....

5. If you're already learning Chic songs and I Wish by Stevie Wonder after only a year playing with too little time between time with kids, then you must be doing pretty well. I Wish is a tough song to play; but maybe you said it with learning songs the whole way through. Have you learnt the bridges and short break down section in I Wish and do you have the stamina and accuracy to play the song the whole way through as tight as it needs to be to really groove?

Roger that! I used to play Just Kissed My Baby from the Rejuvination LP in a funk band many years ago. Killer funk and great use of space.

I haven't read through this thread but I'm assuming the previous 41 posts is everyone saying their current rig is the best they have ever heard?
Ooh, you cynic! :)

though in my case, the answer is yes; but I haven't used it for a few years now, as playing guitar these days and anyway I don't have the cab any more.

8. Fender Bassman 135 with batching Bassman 2x15 cab, which I had to reinforce on all joints and baffles to back to get it sounding super tight and fartfree. With only a lead and a 1979 MusicMan Stingray Bass. I still have all, but the cab as I couldn't move it any longer.

9. Ha! Looks like we all have 'Burman amplifier' saved as followed searches on evilbay.
I would love to hear that rig, as have only played guitar through Burman guitar amps.

Does anyone know just how good they are for bass and can you describe what makes them so special in the low department?

I would be interested to know if bassists love them for the same sort of reasons as guitarists.

10. There's a pretty cool sounding octave divider called a Vivider that's a close copy of the old Mu OD; but to me it sounds a bit thinner, harsher and less lush and warm than the Mu. I've only heard the comparison on your Tube tho.

If you're interested in the TruTron too a good comparison is with the Neutrino by Keeley. I've only heard a comparison on You Tube, but it does sound v convincing. However I suspect the TruTron has a lot more extreme sounds and options than the Keeley; that may be fair tho.

All just my opinion of course!

Psh, in the guitar section. I want your opinions on these with bass! ;)
No worries, our bass player has pulled trigger on a brace of these too!
I will suggest he feedsback on them on BC too, in bass section.

The LP could mayb3e be up for grabs for a trade etc:) As is the SG which is on this forum.
Hmmmm....pls tell me more about that LPJ and what interests you for trade

13. Wow - I am only at 6 guitars and 4 basses and 4 or 5 amps; but feel I need to adopt the 1 in 1 out policy soon.
An LP Jnr does get my juices flowing though!

Of the people here that are playing covers of this - are any of you playing it without keys (or horns)?
Yes, no horns in our band....just two keyboards/one player and guitar, bass and drums. Keys and crunch/chorus guitar cover the horn parts.

15. Just pulled the trigger on these bad boys

Will take a while to arrive from US via customs; but looking forward to some funky good times......

16. Aja had many session players on it too, as did some of earlier LPs....it's well worth checking out the Classic Albums documentary on Aja on BBC4 or Sky Arts 1. Such classy arrangers and musicians.
I think Chuck Rainey was on Royal Scam too. The Dan were reknowned for using some of the very best sessionistas on East and West coast

17. Best recorded bass sound I've ever got was by blending three channels on desk, one was a DI feed from back of amp (a silver face Femder Bassman 135), the second channel was a mic placed right in one of the speakers of the cab and the third was a mic placed further back from the cab to get the thrown bass sound. It was awesome!!

18. Well, the original MM amps from 70s/80s are killer Fender amps under name of Leo's next company after Fender.
They do the best clean sound in the business and can get pretty gnarly too if you like it that way.
I still use an old MM combo on geetar and it's hard to beat.
