    Thanks for the response guys, appreciate it.... Al, Definitely not 2 bridge pickups, pulled them out and checked today...Have also got the treble end of the pickup raised high.. I have no qualms about disrupting it's 'vintage', it's a mex and is my workhorse bass, just want it to sound as good as possible.. Stacker, i too have not seen a J bass with single poles since it's purchase some 12 years ago....clearly it was a brief and unsuccessful experiment! I am going to call Wizard Pickups and get some 64's fitted i think as i tend to play with flats on it....any idea whether this will be suitable for an active deluxe? If it still isn't right i think i'm going to investigate a replacement bridge.....any recommendations? Badass or Gotoh etc? not sure of the difference if I'm honest! Dave

    I have been having a lot of problems with the output from the G string on my MIM Fender J Deluxe....the bass was bought and made in 98 when they still came with the single pole pickups. Ever since i've had it I've had an issue as it seems that the strings don't really line up with the poles on the pickups! Anyway...I was wondering whether you guys think the output problem might be due to the pickups? although it's fine on E A and D... It is a great bass otherwise and i've had loads of compliments on the sound over the years.... If it is the pickups is it worth replacing them with the newer fender vintage noiseless? or should i maybe replace the pre amp with a J retro or something? Any help appreciated, especially if you've heard of this problem before! Dave

    I had the pleasure of playing the P bass when Trev came round to buy my GB, it has tone for days and the pics really don't do it justice....also was shocked at just how light it was... if i wasn't set on another 5er this bass would definitely now be in my possession!! Dave

    Ah that makes more sense. thanks Jack. Yes unfortunately they were selling it as a lakland...even when i questioned some of the build and components they stood firm...are they selling it on behalf of you? maybe have a word! TBH just this evening i've seen a 2nd hand Lakland 55-01 for £635 which i might go for....need to convince to part with my GB first tho! (Whilst i'm aware this makes me sound like a lunatic unfortunately i need the extra GB money for a new laptop)! damn money!

    Ok so i was in Denmark St yesterday and wandered into Wunjo's for the first time. They had a lakland which caught my eye, it played pretty well as well. However, even on close inspection i couldn't figure out the model or year etc... (no one in the shop seemed to know either)! It looks to me as if the controls are modified but otherwise looks pretty straight up. What do you guys make of it? any info you can give me? Dave

    Hey guys.. I was just wondering if anyone on here owns or has played both an MTD Kingston and one of the handmade USA ones? A friend of mine has recently bought a USA one and said its amazing! IS there a huge difference between that and the Kingston series sound and quality wise? Also if anyone has one for sale let me know, as you might have seen o currently have my GB Spitfire 5 string up on the for sale page.... Dave

    OK guys i'm new here.... And i thought what better way to get to know people than offering something......(for a certain price of course)! I Am looking to sell my GB Spitfire. I've had the bass for about 2 and a half years and have done some amazing work with it, but the temptation for something new has come calling and this is the only bass i have which doesn't have any genuine personal value! The bass is a beautiful example of Bernie's work, with the usual crazy on board eq (and flashing l.e.d to let you know how much battery life you have left)! There are one or two minor dings on the bass, (on the back and near the strap lock) as would be expected from something that has been used well...no serious ones though. I'm looking for [s]£1500[/s] £1400 for it. Feel free to get in touch if you want to come and try the bass... Let me know what you guys think! Dave
