  1. It's a funny old do, this bass lark. You search for ages for a bass that you think is "the one" and it's love at first sight, or so it seems. The initial rush of blood subsides and things just don't work out.

I bought this in March on this forum but we just haven't gelled.P8300043.thumb.JPG.06c205c91e1c157fc7f7f4467a43fcca.JPG

I'm sure we all know about Sandberg basses, impeccable quality, great sound and feel. This is basically a five string Jazz with John East J-Retro Deluxe electronics.

It's as light as a feather, 3.1Kg according to my scales, so it'll put a few chiropractors out of work. P8300044.thumb.JPG.1bedec18b417b82beda0d4a247ec6dd7.JPGP8300045.thumb.JPG.5a5290b2450056501000c5e18030ff91.JPGP8300048.thumb.JPG.492507eebc3c2bdcc0dd6604c191cf2b.JPGP8300052.thumb.JPG.1d4fb23f102816295d60b9edb55fff6b.JPG

Condition wise, apart from a couple of small dents to the body, it's pretty much mint. The neck is clean and free of dings and scratches.

Comes with it's original Sandberg gig bag.

Pick up in Loughborough or meet at a reasonable distance. I'm in Brum next week if that's any use to anybody.

  2. I bought a California TT 5 super light the other week.

    6lb 11oz!

Debuted it last night at a small gig.

Lovely instrument to play, plenty of punch and sustain. No neck dive.

Our sound man was very impressed with it.

Best of all, I have no aching shoulder or back as I did with my previous 10.8 lb Sandberg 5 stringer.

  3. This is a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb from 1998. Basically a modification of the ’63 Brown Panel Vibroverb reissue from the early nineties.

Fender took the Vibroverb reissue circuit board and made a few modifications to increase overdrive and put reverb on both channels. This made the amp incredibly noisy.

The amp has been modded back to the Vibroverb reissue circuit using the Moyer/Fromell mods so it no longer sounds like the chip pan is on anymore.

Reverb is now only on the bright channel and the negative feedback loop has been restored resulting in more headroom and significantly less noise.

    Work done:

All electrolytic capacitors replaced with high quality Sprague/F&T/TAD/Nichicon caps.

    New Power valve sockets.

    New reverb tank

Captive reverb cables removed, phono sockets fitted to rear panel and vintage style reverb cables fitted.

Heater wiring and balance resistors removed from PCB to remove danger of heat damage.

Screen resistors relocated to power valve sockets to remove danger of heat damage to PCB.

Bright cap removed from bright channel.

The amp now runs quietly with minimal background noise and will make a great gigging amp. It takes pedals beautifully!

The tone stacks are very Brown Panel in sound, very different to my Deluxe Reverb.

The vibrato (sic) is very lush and as it modulates the power valve bias is available on both channels.

  4. A Hipshot BT1 short key d-tuner. A bit of a rarity maybe as it has the Fender logo on it.

On my Stingray for a while but it's gone now so up for grabs.

In very good order with ferrule and countersunk screws.

Suitably road worn so won't look too out of place on an older instrument.

Short tuning peg as on a Musicman.

  5. I bought Paul's Sandberg Superlight the other day. You know it's going to be a good one when the first discussion upon arrival concerns tea. Despite the kettle problems the whole transaction was extremely painless and I thank you  So does my back! Highly recommended.

  6. One in, one out. You know the score.

Had this for a year, it's a fantastic bass but my '93 Sterling does all of this and more so it's up for grabs.

It was made on the 5th of August 2010. All original, all working fine.

A few battle scars to the body near the jack/control plate and a bit of buckle rash in the usual place. There is a little damage to the finish on the end of the headstock too, just cosmetic.

It came with a couple of spare scratch plates in torty and grey pearloid.

    Musicman hard case too.

  7. I'm dipping my toe in the water here.

     IMG_1546.thumb.jpeg.d362171118154c0c26e5d2af86e1b7a6.jpeg

I saw this back in October and was pretty much taken straight away. Went and bought it. It's an amazing bass to play, fantastic range of sounds from the Delano pickups and two band eq with passive option.

    IMG_1548.thumb.jpeg.3f39cb8815fd460c7a85c25b25f3a38f.jpegIMG_1549.thumb.jpeg.51daf3426feef1e88c7a0381df0c7dd2.jpegIMG_1550.thumb.jpeg.de0711943a61b4577f725283242e1b0d.jpeg

You'll either love or hate the aesthetics of it. The body is a greatest hits of four of Sandberg's finest finishes. My personal highlight being the heavily distressed Sherwood Green (?) section. The attention to detail is fantastic with the bell plate changing from chrome to gold as appropriate.

    IMG_1551.thumb.jpeg.2657f8e5a16d290a1eac7d67a9b41d34.jpegIMG_1552.thumb.jpeg.21c2c4251f231ed223c902398f9cb4a5.jpegIMG_1553.thumb.jpeg.67cf1cc9ab5b4161aa4cfa39ee510e13.jpegIMG_1554.thumb.jpeg.508b74488a832b4dd12127e2d7767bb4.jpegIMG_1556.thumb.jpeg.7fbf2397910deda0a555b403af8e7c41.jpegIMG_1557.thumb.jpeg.5b4deab01fd84fbe6f7a03e847d98763.jpeg

So in terms of electronics, it's fitted with a pair of Delano pickups, the bridge pickup having a single/dual coil switch. Pull the volume pot out and the preamp is bypassed with the treble control changing to a passive treble roll off.

Comes with the original Sandberg gig bag and a comfort strap with Dunlop strap-locks.

I love this bass but I think it's just a bit flamboyant for me. I'm used to a Stingray for 5 string jobs and at a gig the other night I took both and the Stingray won out.

So I'm testing the water here, not desperate to sell but I'm thinking some one else will suit this better.

If anyone wants to trade for a Stingray 5, we might be able to thrash something out.

Meet up or collection only I'm afraid, as it has no hard case.

  8. This is the last of the Trace heads before they went under around the turn of the century. It's the rack mounted AH300-12 head. It comes in a Roadready 3U flight case .

I put a ventilation panel in the spare 1U space.

The amp is in full working order and was gigged regularly until the time of the pandemic. I've gone and bought a load of lightweight gear (I'm no spring chicken!) and so this has been sat in the cupboard doing nowt.

A fantastic amp with the superb Trace dual compressor circuit. The switchable valve drive circuit is very usable too. Switchable parallel or series effects loop and switchable 12 band graphic and preshape.

    IMG_1514.thumb.jpeg.f715b9e9b8da21a127df8db9c49f27e0.jpeg

There are a few holes drilled in the top panel to improve airflow for cooling. On the back there is a speakon socket in parallel with the 1/4" jack speaker outputs. Also a 7 pin xld socket which parallels the foot switch socket.

    IMG_1516.thumb.jpeg.77cae0cff421b4decd967ebf206119af.jpegIMG_1515.thumb.jpeg.2dcc24e6dd438807961950f170f79c13.jpeg

The front panel illumination is in full working order and stays on all night. I fitted the Trace modification to the front panel illumination board which stops the lights going out if there's a power fluctuation.

Comes with a kettle lead and a couple of Speakon cables.

    IMG_1517.thumb.jpeg.ed67292869d7be33a6a1db9b6d567f46.jpeg

I'm asking £250 for it. It's heavy so postage would be expensive and impractical. A meet up or collection would be preferable.

@FettsmanAndy! Hope you’re well?! Won’t help the sale but: this is the bargain of the century!! My dream cab line up when I started out, and never fulfilled. I just can’t because I’ve got a Barefaced and I’m old but man alive, what a great setup this would be.

All well here! It's a great combination of cabs but once you've gigged with an 12kg 4x10" there's not going back. Still loving the Stingray 5!!
