1. Erm, do you guys not realise that at the Uk's/Germany's latitude at mid-winter the sun sets in the South-West, while in the summer it sets in the North-West. Effectively at some point in the year the sun can set anywhere behind an object.

If you want an easy explanation, then it could be a sequence of sunset between mid-summer and mid-winter (sun gradually sets more south (left).

However I still have to emphasis that the inlays get smaller: while the mountain being central and the sun on the left, therefore giving the impression that the sun moves to the left.

  2. The first issue is that it would be a lot of work, and second describing sound is so subjective that it's really difficult to get the gist.

To quote someone from bassworld (BT68 I think) " ... trying to describe a sound in writing is like trying to describe a smell through the medium of dance ... ".

To be fair though, Andy at Monkey FX gives it a good go: http://www.monkeyfx.co.uk/fxguide.html

  3. I think I'm now at the stage where my gear is more than my talent, but as with all things, that makes me try harder to become better.

I've agreed with my girlfriend that the bass I'm currently having made will be the last one I buy for 5 years, so that should keep my gas down.

I've always preferred investing in wood and strings though as electronics loose their value very quickly (there are a few exceptions, but lets skip over that).

  4. Alder was my first thought, especially from the slightly red hue compared to yellow maple, but again my experience is limited.

The Alder on my ACG is slightly redder next to my old Antoniotsai

To me ash (swamp) is more yellow:

    EDIT:
Also how's the crack looking? Was it just in the paint or was it all the way through? How much further did it extend into the body that was previously hidden?

  5. Erm, I'm not sure how to phrase this as it seems to be other people's issue not mine.

Anyway, I've seen a few topics (3) where people have used this emoticon  (rolleyes) where I think they meant :) (smiley). I think it is the way the icons are listed on their menu, the 'normal  being on the 2nd page, can this be changed so it's in the first page?

I know this seems a minor thing, but there have been a couple of threads (the fodera sale one for example) where I think this mistake has occurred and the intent of a post has been misread, causing a couple of unnecessary disagreements.

  6.
It seems that all that is on this forum of late is "what is best" kind of topics. Good god enough man !. We used to have really good topics not just pointless crap like this.
I would tell you why, but then I'd be killed.

  7. I can't really comment as I've never been there despite my London-specific bass trips, this is because of the comments on the old forum that said 'Avoid the Cellar, it's awful, go to the Gallery or otherwise Bass Centre' ... so I have done, and they are great!

  8. I mentioned it in the 'Are Seis worth the 20% increase' thread, but after the event as I was toying with the idea of bidding. I decided not to because I dislike 35" scale lenghts

Yet another example of how expensive basses with odd looks/scale lengths really don't hold their prices well.

  9. Fascinating thoughts largo, I certainly think that there are 2 very different custom market: the 'Super Jazzes', and 'Completely non traditional'. It's difficult to justify high prices for the SJs, but the truly one-off customs I think Seis are reasonable (although still at the very top of the market).

Still, even then the one offs can hold their value really well on not. This one didn't and I bet the guy really wishes he had just taken it to Martin to refurb and sell, if it tuns up on the Gallery web site in the next month with a £1500+ price on it, then someone will really be kicking themselves!

  10. I hadn't really noticed as I'm not looking to buy one (I already have a Streamer LX), but I have been surprised by the 2 Overwaters, 2 Seis, and the 2 Mesaboogie 400+s that are for sale, all of which are rare enough on their own, but there are a whole load of high-end basses and amps in the Classifieds at the moment.

It seems there are a lot of people trying to move their gear on, which could be to do with the time of year: people having time off, so more spare time to get round to taking photos etc. However, I suspect it's actually due to the new, more stable Basschat that we've attracted more people to sell their gear!

  11. Hi folks,

Just wondering if we're moving toward having 1 national BC bash in the Spring (as that one has been more popular than the September one), plus the local ones or if there's going to be another national one between now and Christmas?

Was there ever an ideal venue/compramise figured out?

  12. I know the effect you mean, the old warwick bass on the BW logo was bubinga with a sapwood centre in the same style. Did you see edition 18 of BGM? There was the UK luthier special, and they reviewed an overwater with a cocobolo top with similar sapwood, Thre was a biiger pic on their site, but I could only see this thumbnail just now:

  13. Very nice, is that the model with the Cedar body + Carbon fibre top or the totally CF one?

Certainly have to give Gus credit, they make almost everything themselves (I think Machine heads are the exception?). They are very high on my wish list!

  14.
Thats some kind of set-up........ Is this for gigs????? or is it your bedroom?
Gigs I'd assume, for me a TV would be particularly useful for the punters to watch when any of us breaks into a solo. :)
