I love theses basses. I play a Roadster RS 900 (maple fingerboard fretless) and i use to play a 940 Musician, fretless, of course i have an addiction

In this Ibanez catalog, you can see (written in little in the text under the Musician 940 bass) that the dark fingerboard is an ebony one. Ibanez used often this wood.
You roadster looks to have a ebony fingerboard. It may be a special order from the first owner or a limited edition.

These instruments were seriously made and designed as my luthier would say.

In excellent condition, these basses worth at least 400£.

I have 2 stock EMG JJ pick ups on my old 89 WW Thumb 5 (with a 9V MEC preamp) and i think they fit this exotic lutherie : they don't colour the instrument' sound, when i plug i refind what i hear unplugged.

Even on vintage ( fashionnable in the 80's) it can work. A matter of personal taste

You are right.
For the guitars, it was Acousticaster. A friend has one : telecaster body shape and nylon strings. Very cool look and sound.

Canadian Godin fine Lutherie.
Handmade in early 1990s in Canada and not in Asia (it is not A4). Jazz bass look.
LR Baggs 18V Preamp giving a wide sound pallet : from the double bass to a solid body (if you change for roundwound strings).
At present loaded with flatwound strings. Ebony Fingerboard safe and warn sound.

Thin maple neck.
Hollow body with a harp integrated, Godin patented.
Ebony Bridge and long thumb rest.
Piezo pickups
Golden tuners.

Bass in excellent state with a rare black finish.

I own several fender vintage basses.
My 60's have rounder fingerboard and thin neck ( thin D shape)
My 70's have flatter fingerboard and rounder neck shape.

When i play, the fingerboard curve doesn't mainly influence my feeling but neck shape MUCH more as i have "little" hands. Actually it is a duo : fingerboard-neck shape.

70's Flatter fingerboard are easier for slapping IMO. That's why modern basses (as you said) are designed with this choice.

60's Rounder FB and thin neck suit my fingerstyle playing.

Yes, Robert Trujillo said that he "sponsored" by buying the Bass to the seller, letting time to the Pastorius familly to find the amount.

But what i know : these neck changes happened much after Wood changes, Wenge to Ovangkol in late 90's.

I used to own a Thumb necktrough 4 string, beautiful instrument but the neck was to round and thin for me. When i found a 5 string Thumb it was perfect for me, a slim D shape. I only kept this one.

A maple neck : non common choice for a 60's Jazz Bass look. it was an option in these days.

I tried a Jaco Signature and my feeling isn't as good as i have with my old JB US reissue 62 fretted. It doesn't mean all Jaco Artist Signature are bad.
I am going towards the Jaco JB Tribute.

This Bass gives a special sound. It comes from Leo's PU, ebony fingerboard and mahogamy body i supposed.
I am not a Precision tone lover but i must admit that instrument has something.

I wish i could find a L2000E. Maple neck.
