  1. Thanks chaps! You're right, it's one that's popped up in a local shop - I very nearly handed over my credit card when I played it but I've calmed down a bit now, 2 grand does seem like a lot of money. I knew it was expensive but wasn't sure if it was overpriced as I haven't seen many 80's Thumbs for sale, of course there's the argument that any bass is worth what you're prepared to pay but I never like to hand over my hard earned without checking to see if it could be better spent first.

Any further comments or advice will still be gratefully received, I might see if I can raise some money before I buy it and just call it fate if it sells before I get there.

  2. Hi all
Was just wondering if some folks in the know about Warwicks could help me out, I'm wondering if £2k is a fair price for the following bass:

    1988 Thumb 5 NT
Pretty sure it's a custom shop job, I think it's a bubinga body (very heavy bass, nice figuring on the wood), 7 piece neck, wenge fingerboard, green LED side markers, Bartolini p'ups, slimmer neck than the 2 other Warwicks I have, pretty good condition - you can tell it's notyoung but the only noticable mark on the finish is the spot above the front p'up where your thumb rests.

So yeah, is two grand a fair price?

  3. So I'm looking at buying a Jazz bass or 2 (different tunings) for a band I've started and I'm in love with the natural ash body, black scratch plate, maple fretboard & block inlay look of the Squier VMJ's, but I'm wondering if with my eyes closed I'd know why I'd paid 2 and a half times as much for one as I could have paid for a Harley Benton whick looks exactly the same.
Does anyone have any experience of comparison between the 2?

  4. Hi there folks!

    I recently picked up a job lot of bass gear as there were a few bits in there that I wanted, but a lot of it is going to need re-homing. I was just wondering if anyone could help me to identify these Trace Elliot cabs (model no's etc) and maybe suggest a sensible price that I might want to advertise them at;

Unfortunately due to their age the model and serial numbers on the backs are no longer readable. The top one is an HF cab only, it says on the back that using it with a full range signal will invalidate the warranty but the previous owner has had a high pass filter added to the circuit so that there's no need for a crossover or bi-amping. The 4X10 has had the speakers replaced with uprated cones making it 400w rather than it's original 200w, and I'm told it's hardly been used since.
Any help will be gratefully received!
    Cheers,
    Matt

  5. Hi! Sorry to be flogging me cheesy wares in the wrong place, but I'm rapidly running out of time on this one!
Unfortunately I've been left with a spare standing room ticket for both nights of Primus at the Royal Albert Hall this week (Weds 4th and Thurs 5th April) and I'm just too skint to let them go to waste.
They came to about £60 (give or take a few pence) with all the fees etc so obviously making that would be great but a sensible offer would most likely be considered.
If anyone can help me out I'd be immensly grateful.
    Cheers!

  6. Hey, anyone know who stocks/deals with EMG p'ups in the UK? I can only seem to find the one's I'm interested in on US sites, I'm going to try my local guitar shops to see if they can order in for me but thought I might get a better deal if I shop around.
My concern about buying from the US is that I'll have to pay import duty on them which will bang the price up, anyone know if it'd be enough to worry about?

    Cheers,
    Matt
