The frets would have been originally levelled with no tension on the truss rod. If you want to level them again, remove the strings, slacken off the truss rod and then maybe wait a day or two for the neck to settle.

this may have been the case when the neck was made, but if you fully slacken off the truss rod any time afterwards, then it may have picked up a bow one way or the other.  the idea of the notched straightedges is that you get the fingerboard straight by adjusting the truss rod & only then level the frets.  if you try to level the frets without the wood straight then you'll end up grinding down the frets either in the middle or at the two ends unnecessarily & probably introduce  other  issues.

When building a guitar why would you route the pocket at an angle?

if the body's not flat-topped - making  the saddles considerably higher than the body end of the fretboard - then the pocket  will be routed sloped slightly backwards to compensate.  standard practise on Les Pauls & similar (glued-in neck on LPs of course, but you get the idea).

    Reverb:

Prior to 6 September, Reverb has been paying for this VAT/GST out of pocket on sellers’ behalf. Given that this isn’t a sustainable solution, we’ve updated our policies. Please check this to your tax authority for the confirmation.

was  it a real person or  AI/chatbot though?

the only thing I can think is that they want a VAT number so they know *not* to charge you VAT on fees if you have one.  if you don't have one then they will need to charge you.  I suspect something's being lost in translation between 'mercan & English.

  4. I bought an Ampeg preamp pedal (possibly formerly cetera's, judging from a couple of posts back lol).  no bother, quick dispatch, item well packaged & as described.

a nice chap to deal with  - thanks Nik  👍
