1. BASS NOW SOLD

Last price drop to £100 before it goes on eBay

A two part disaster really as our central heating boiler which is situated in my music room (aka the garage) has decided to spring a leak. Luckily none of my bass equipment was damaged but it led to the discovery of my secret stash of bass guitars by Mrs Tazza. So not only have I not got a hiding place anymore I now also need to divest myself of quite a few basses & find the money to get the boiler replaced (that's the central heating boiler – not Mrs Tazza) or else find somewhere else to live. As I'm quite fond of the current Mrs Tazza I need to comply pretty sharpish especially as she has now decided that my music room (aka the garage) is to be converted into an extended kitchen (I don't know why because thankfully she rarely cooks*). This is where you, my bass playing brethren, can help. Hopefully you can understand the predicament I am in & see your way clear to buying this bass.

This is the first of a few basses I have for sale. I bought this about 18 months ago when I started my switch back to short scale basses. It's in great condition as I hardly used it due to the aforementioned Mrs Tazza buying me a Squier Jaguar SS (she's not all bad).
This would be ideal for a child or beginner taking their first steps into bass playing or someone with small hands or a guitarist wanting to play bass. Make no mistake this is not a toy & you could definitely use this as your main gigging bass. The sound & finish are very good & it plays nicely.

The specifications are:

· Candy Apple Red
· Neck: Maple (Scale 28.60")
· Body: Agathis body
· Frets: Medium frets
· Fingerboard: Rosewood
· Inlay: Pearl dot
· Bridge: B10 bridge
· Neck pickup: PSNDP neck pickup
· Middle pickup: PSNDJ bridge pickup
· Hardware colour: Chrome
· Gig Bag included

I'm looking for £100 if you collect (or £110posted) for this as it is virtually unused.

There are several options for collection – you can collect from Kettering, Thurmaston (Leicester) or Heckingham (Norfolk)
You can view pics at this link http://sdrv.ms/1bj3RRG – I've pictured it next to a Jazz bass so you can gauge the size.

*This may or may not be my little joke depending on whether you are Mrs Tazza or not

2. I've just bought a Tascam bass trainer from Andy. It was exactly as described, arrived very well packaged & was a very good price.
I'm delighted, this was a nice easy smooth transaction.
Thank you Andy, would definitely deal with you again.

3. I've just bought a Fender MIM Precision from Russ. He was a pleasure to deal with throughout the transaction, the bass was as he described (actually I think it was better than he described) & was very well packed up. You'll have no issues at all dealing with Russ.

Thanks Russ for a cracking bass!
Steve

4. I've just bought Brian's Krappy Guitars Twiggy EUB, it was very well packaged up & exactly as he described it. I'm very pleased with it!
Brian is a real nice friendly guy who is an absolute pleasure to deal with.

P.S. Hope the move goes well mate!

5. I've just bought a GLX Octave pedal from Gary. He has been an absolute pleasure to deal with throughout, the pedal is exactly as described & very well packaged up.
I'd have no hesitation in recommending Gary to anyone.

Here it is again. Judging by the description the seller has been getting some hassle, probably over use of the G-word anywhere in the title/description. Seems a bit odd really, as I never had a problem with how it was being presented, more a problem with the price and its very need to exist...

Yes but come on be fair he's fitted the all important "knob pointers" to it

7. Bought a Jazz neck from Adam (Dolando). He sent it really quickly, it was exactly how he described it & it was packed up very well.
Adam is a real pleasure to deal with.

Many thanks for the neck Adam!

8. Bought some shortscale strings from Marvin. He despatched them very quickly & the whole deal was very smooth.

He's a great guy to deal with.

Cheers for the strings mate!

The lip buzzing thing is very important, and at uni we all spent a lot time stood in front of the mirror looking very stupid perfecting it. However, just recently, I saw a video by Allen Vizutti, advocating not buzzing. His rationale, especially for a beginner, is that it's actually the air stream that is most important. Therefore, learning to breathe and blow correctly, coupled with the mouthpiece on the lips in a relaxed fashion allows the lips to vibrate naturally without tension being created by the pinching of the corners of your mouth, like when you buzz without the mouthpiece. As I posted earlier, long notes are great at helping develop this, especially if you can do them at low volume, whilst still putting lots of air into the instrument. What is paramount is that you don't screw the mouthpiece on to your face, and you use as little pressure as possible when going further up the register. My old practise technique was to buzz on the mouthpiece along to the radio or whatever, but only holding the very end of the shank with the lightest possible grip possible. (So many jokes, so little time!) If you try this and you find your fingers coming back to your face, your using too much pressure!

One thing to try & avoid is puffing your cheeks out, which is where the muscle tone referred to above comes in (yes I know you see some trumpet players who look like bullfrogs when they're playing but they are pretty unique talents). The work needs to be done by the lungs coupled with a good embrochure - this will give a good technique. To be honest I wouldn't just "blow" with the mouthpiece alone as the pressure is not like the full instrument & you won't really be able to tell whether you are getting near to playing something musical.

Well Warren Road is very much a road of two halves. the posh half and the benefit hotel half. (I, being awkward lived approx in the middle) I must say I found it quite 'cosmopolitan' and easy to make friends there. Mostly enjoyed it and would still be there if it were not for the landlord getting all of a sudden money mad.

That's a shame Daz. If I could afford to I would move there

11. Hi Paul,

Welcome to BC. I'm not so keen on the newer heavy bands but love Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc. & was in a lot of hard/heavy rock bands in my youth - I play in a blues band now though.
I haven't been to Torquay for a few years but used to visit two or three weekends & summer holidays each year (used to stay in Warren Road - why is it infamous?). I love the place - used to go to see the bands on Friday nights in the Cider Press - is that still open?
Anyway enjoy BC, there are some really helpful people on here.

I think intonation would be the least of your worries if you bought that

I'm wondering why he's fitted a washer to the G string saddle adjuster behind the bridge? - & that second hand E string (a long scale string)* looks just about ready to break. He'll have someone's eye out with that.

*his parentheses - are the other three shortscale then?

13. Still, he has become a legend to many of us on this thread and we eagerly await his next offering!

& here it is.....

The one guitar he has that has got a zero fret & he doesn't even mention it!!!

"This was utterly unplayable when I got it recently, though I could see it was going to be a superb guitar if I could devote the time to it." - & it probably still is looking at that re-cut nut.

"This one was like the many now that are kept in the loft as a memory of someones band back in the 1970s." - & that's where it should have stayed.

Look at that scratchplate too WTF
