1.
I am a legit seller who joined your forum many months ago and have made purchases from sellers in Europe. I posted the bass for a price where it would make me consider selling the instrument, that is all. If you look at my feedback on talkbass and ebay you will see. I am not a wheeler and dealer, I am a PhD. student in music who loves instruments, especially Celinders. Sorry you guys have got excited about my post, it seems to be more the case of someone getting upset that he didn't get the deal I got. My posted price was a fair price especially considering the recently sold Celinders are this site. Cheers and happy holidays.

The Gold Celinder shipped yesterday to its new owner, I was able to trade her for my old Celinder four string I always regretted selling, luckily the owner wanted a five string.
If you joined many months ago then please accept my apologies - it's just the way it looked.

Sounds as though it was a satisfying outcome for both parties. :)

  2.
So witch hunts are OK here, then? It really baffles me how it is some one else's business how much people buy the stuff for and how much they ask for it.
Doesn't look like a witch hunt to me - someone merely pointed out that the bass had been bought just a few days previously & at a price a lot less than was being asked here - statement of fact. I don't have a problem with people buying & selling on for a profit (although a $700 profit may be pushing it) but what I do feel goes against the grain a bit is someone joining a forum just to sell a bass (& quite obviously in the hope that other people had not seen his purchase - if that's not the case he would have sold it on on Talkbass). Birdy & Burbinga5 were just stating their opinion - whether you agree with that or not it certainly doesn't make it a witch hunt. Obviously this is just my opinion. :)

  3.
This is a most tempting offer for the item.
Unfortune-ately, I do not have myself the money to pay for the item.
My uncle has money that was confiscated by the government here after the coup but not all of it was taken.
He has $5M in a most secret account and says that he will pay you one million dollar for the item.
He will transfer $2M to your bank account if you will wire the $1M dollar back to him.

We just need your bank account details and your PIN number and we will sort this out with the utmost importance.
I've got a better idea you send me the money via Western Union then I'll despatch the bass with your $1m dollars, should be no problems there!

  4.
I am shocked that you could even suggest such a thing.
The 12 experts who have looked at it have all said it is the genuine artikal and worth $2000...

Hellos to you my greeting friend!
To your most excellent query, I can confim that this is indeed a most excellent item with genuine features attached.
It is for you that it is 2000 dollar.
If people tell you otherwise they are not truthful and loyal.
    -----------------------------------------
I've just had my Marlin Percussion valued by the top experts at Crack Converters, it was a bit of a shock really, they said they had never seen such
a pile of junk in their lives (which is a bit rich really considering the quality of the goods they sell).
I explained that the previous owner had told me the bass was a one off special edition (one of only 1,000,000 ever made) but they were adament
that it is worthless & I've got to believe them because they really know their stuff don't they?
So I'm afraid the deal is off unless you want a straight exchange for my Fecker Jizz Bass. Go on - you can have hours of fun showing people the logo
    on your paddle thingy.

  5.
I don't need to tell you because, as you're reading this you will already know, the Stradivarius Precison Bass (as certified by 12 music industry experts) was made in the Matsumokumushipea factory and is a *RARE* and *SUPERB* ungigged example of the high quality craftyship that they was [s]reknown[/s] [s]renoun[/s] famous for.
No-one could shape plywood like those Japanese [s]geenyus[/s], [s]jeanius[/s], craftsmen!
Hold on though wasn't the Stradivarius made in the Czech republic? Are you sure this is genuine?

  6.
They're rubbish they are.
You wanna get a Stradivarius Precision Bass like what I've got - *totally* rare and never gigged... wanna buy it? :)
Let me think about it but are you sure it's not the cheaper Stradivarius Percussion Base? A lot of people make that mistake.

Would you swop for my Marlin Percussion Base - it's worth more than yours cos it's got a genuine Squire transfer on the end bit.

  7.
If you've added "Fecker Jizz Bass" decals to your Johnny Brook copy, then you should spend half your ebay listing congratulating yourself on your keen sense of humour having created this "hilarious" bass, and of course you should price it at £200 or more.
Oh feck - that's another one of my basses you lot have ridiculed. I dread to think what you are going to say about my Fender Stratocaster Bass. :)

Pick up only (although i might be able to send it email if you need to do this and i will try and find cost).

Bloody hell that would be one large attachment!!

  9.
A personal favourite of mine is the concept of a "custom made" bass built from a coffee table offcut, a reclaimed neck with "Encore" rubbed off of it and hardware fixed using assorted woodscrews leftover from an Ikea session is going to be "far better than all of the Wal's, Overwaters and Jaydee's that I've owned as a professional musician". :)
When did you see my bass then?!!

  10.
Why would anyone publicly admit to having kept this monstruosity for 20 years?
I love the pick up routing, I mean you just would not want to cover that with a pickguard (even if you could get one the right shape).
I also like the machine heads, set at different angles because they're closer to the edge of the headstock on one side than they are on the other - design brilliance & well ahead of it's time.
Strange thing is there's something about it I like.............................. oh dear I think I might need help - repeat after me I must buy a Fender Jazz, I must buy a Fender Jazz...........

  11. Aria Pro ii XRB - pointy headstocky!! I think this may be from the late 80's?

With a case too. Seems quite a bargain.

  12.
That's because it's the P Bass special model so it would have had the Jazz neck also. Unfortunately it's no longer for sale. There's another one here starting at £99:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Precision-Sta...=item335f23f35f
Looking at again though - I see what you mean, it does look a little odd. The bottom control knob looks out of position compared to the one in the other auction & there looks to be an extra screw in the scratchplate so not sure now!

  13.
with an extra pickup added??
Got to be worth £49.99 if you can collect from South London. Not much info in the auction description so you can't really tell what condition it's in but the standard series usually fetch between £80 & £120 on eBay.

If I could collect I'd go for it. If you buy it let us know what it's like.

  15.
I have a parallel thread running on the Westone forums. It's been pointed out that the Thunder IA bass being sold for £350 was recently bought for £230. There seem to have been a few Jedson basses and guitars on ebay recently. I haven't heard good things about the Jedson brand though.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-JEDSON-TELE-...=item335f1d6d02
I started playing on the guitar version of this - bloody awful!! Very high action, you couldn't set the intonation & the bridge height adjustment screws were just in the right position to cut your hand to shreds... & they did!! Horrible things - it's a wonder I carried on playing.

"This auction is for a gorgeous Black Jazz Bass guitar i got my hands on. Beautiful guitar! Fantastic for any type of music.
It has a Jazz Bass style maple bolt on neck with a chrome neck mounts and is really nice, the action, playability, look, the lot !
It also has a Fender style shaped headstock for that classic look."

"This guitar has been labeled with a fender decal so it looks the part."

It sure does(n't!) - Just why would you bother doing that? If you're going to rip something off at least do the research.

  17.
Stick some pics up & let's try & ID it.

    J.
I'm just about to go on holiday for a few days but I'll try to get some pics up on this thread when I come back. The logo had been removed when I bought it but I was in a recording studio a few years ago & the owner had two identical basses (one fretted & one de-fretted) - they were badged Columbus. I've tried rubbing a pencil lightly over some thin paper on top of the logo but the impression it left wasn't clear enough.

  18.
I hope this just is a case of genuine ignorance on the part of the seller!

Anyway it's a low-end Jap jazz copy. This probably had a tin "Avon" badge nailed to it once. Under the black rattlecan paintjob it will have a 3-colour burst, and under that there will be genuine vintage plywood.

This is typical of early/mid 70s MIJ cheapos - it would have had chrome ashtrays originally, so for pups they just used whatever was lying around, in this case chrome single-coils intended for Telecaster copies. These pups do actually sound OK though. In Telecasters.

Here's one of these that I picked up a couple of years ago, for about £30:

I was 99% certain that was the case. I've got a similar Jap one in pieces in my garage at the moment awaiting refurb. It's got Jazz style pickups though & the tuners are not the elephant ear ones. I've had it since around 1980 & I think it must be early 70's.
I'm glad that someone has contacted the seller so that they have the chance to amend the listing (hopefully they will).

erm..... no I don't think so unless anyone here knows different - I'm not a Fender expert?

Yeah there's something really fishy about that. I was the highest bidder at £115.39 up until someone bid £118 for it, there was then a winning bid of £120.
The bass was suddenly relisted later on with the BIN at £100 & the person who won it at £120 then won it at the BIN price. Dodgy!

  21.
This was me - woop woop! Didn't realise there was a BC thread going about it, as soon as I saw the listing on ebay I pulled the virtual trigger, didn't think twice. We'll have to see if it's any good or not, but unfortunately not for a bit as I live in Edinburgh - got family down there though who'll hold onto it for me. I also bought a rather funky looking black mexi classic 70s that was listed, thought it'd be cool to compare the sounds of different pickup positions. And now I have to sell things or I shall face ruin, sigh...
That's great news - good for you. It just shows though that if you are going to sell on Ebay, research how much previous auctions have reached for the item you're selling, take the time to write a good clear description & add good quality pics - this bass would have fetched more money for the seller had they just taken the time to do it properly. I hope it's a good one for you!

  22.
I haven't. It's one of the reasons I usually use snipe-it. That way no one can bid you up and you will never go over your original value.

I usually will put the snipe-it on near the last day and I have walked away from a few collection only listings. Mainly because I reckoned if it did go cheap then the buyer would likely back out. I keep the items in my watch list mind and quite a few have come back on with a decent minimum bid or reserve set 2nd time round. I've even seen a few re-listed on a different account in the same location and the same pics and the same 'this is my favourite bass selling it but keeping the other 2 dozen etc etc' bull.

I reckon they should show locations of bidders that way it would be more obvious if it was or wasn't dodgy bidding. Like if someone with a low feedback keeps bidding up an auction and the location is the same as the sellers then there's more of a chance its dodgy compared to a bidder doing it from 100 miles away.
It was better when they used to show bidders ID's because you could then check out their feedback. Now you only see the feedback score they have, you don't know how much that has been reduced by negative feedback. For instance h**c's feedback score is 26 yet the positive feedback is showing as 0% - why?

I haven't seen one of these for years!! I began to think I had imagined them.
I believe Geddy Lee used to play a white one during the 70's.
