Having said I can't offer any advice, one thing that might help is avoiding open strings where possible. That way, everything is easier to navigate at first. Then when you're feeling more confident with where the notes are, open strings can come back into play.
I’m sticking to what I know, for now at least anyways -

Find the old D'Addario string tension guide PDF, and start experimenting. Tune your bass to fifths and widen your reach. Or to double bass solo tuning, or tenor, or BEAD, or whatever.
Not quite what i was saying but thanks anyways

Hi all.
Question for you.
For many years now I’ve been playing in DGCF (ADGCF) and use that for everything , it’s my standard tuning to keep up with Eb-D guitars, just add two frets up to everything in standard, as is only open strings that are effected etc. I don’t like Drop tunings (drop as in DADG etc) so this for me was the perfect solutionthe problem I’ve got now is a new music situation and I could possibly save myself a lot of work and tune back up. Sounds simple but my ear and the bass neck no longer match up In standard EADG.
How many others do this ? (Tune low as standard that is)

I’ve ordered one from gak for the sake of a few quid as I’m not convinced regarding the conflicting diagrams I’ve found

Very tidy build, congrats!
What are you using for the patch bay? Looks neat.
Also, what is the spare plug next to the thumpinator doing?
Cheers!
The patch bay is home made, piece of plastic, chain links. Locking Neutric Jack plugs.
the disconnected Jack by the thump is for the wireless- 1

@danny-79 - nice. Interested in your brackets for slinging the thumpinator under the board… what did you use for that, looks like they’re screwing in to the base plate?
It’s thick 6mm plexi plastic that I’ve used to cable tie the pedals down with, chain links on the thump and screwed it into the plastic- 1

Is this still available?

Brought some EMG pickups off Eldon, great to deal with. Parts were delivered exactly how described (excellent new condition) quickly and at a great price, don’t hesitate to deal with.
Cheers. Dan

I'm confused at the idea of swapping basses as described by some posts.
If you have ADGCF and never play lower than the A, why not just keep the bass in that tuning forever and learn all the songs for that tuning? There's more than enough range.
Thats always been my theory
DGCF = extra lower notes where you need them most, just move positions up the neck, it’s only open stings that are affected and I only ever bounce off them anyways.
So going ADGCF is about the only logical thing to do for me as being new to playing a fiver I’m getting lost in every direction possible with BEADG lol 😂

I’ve got a 135 Elixir steel that I’ll try but will definitely look into the daddario suggest

In short who tunes there 5 string this way ?
Im a four string player who has tuned DGCF for that long that that’s standard for me so the logical thing to do would be ADGCF
just seeing ing how many of you do that as the A is pretty low !!! (By my ears anyways)
cheers

Hi. I’ve got a MXR Phase90. Unsure of the exact model but it’s fairly new, less than 12months.
I’m trying to get a level pot fitted so I can control the input as as from standard there is a considerable drop in volume across the whole sweep.
(I have asked about this before but can’t find the post)
does anyone know anything about this mod, what parts I need. Wiring diagrams etc I’ve got someone to do the work, my job to research so asking for help here. At a bit of a loss so far.
Cheers

Tablet gone screwy. I’m trying to ask Lewis, how you getting on with the Octabvre? I’m looking for a new octave pedal and like the look of that

I was playing around with overdrive order and put together this mini board. I'm kind of falling in love with stacking gain stages at the moment.
The Morning Glory is a light overdrive, which works well for that crappy early 2000s indie sound (one band I play with does a lot of that kind of thing). Then the Plumes is a midrange distortion for something more full on. And they stack very nicely. The Octabvre and the Proton are ever present.

It’s evolving and I’m getting quite happy with it.
I had to change the truss rod bolt, that was a task in its self finding the right one. I feel I should should panic buy a few bags of them after the haste of that !!!!
But anyways, I collected a few other parts while it was out of action and have now put it all together.

I use daddario 105-50 (add a 135 for the fivers) to me that feels perfect, it’s what I’ve always used, gauge wise anyways even when I tuned standard EADG (130-45 on the fivers)
if I do tune back up, it just sounds all wrong, like there is a part of it missing, cause there is really and it’s not long before I start getting lost and derailed , I even do the full step down on guitar acoustic and electric
