  1. Vey kind, thanks. What are those machine heads like? I was looking at the Wilkinson ones at Northwest Guitars but they seem to be short of chrome ones at the moment.
  2. That's ok, could probably do with replacing them all.
  3. Thanks, I think mine will be ok, might even change the colour, I quite like red tort on a black bass, anyway...photo of the machine head below
  4. Yeah sorry, I was going to post photos of the machine heads but forgot, I think the scratch plate will be ok with a good clean, what colour is the one you've got?
  5. They look great, it's nice to know they're worth a mod or two, the series switch sounds interesting, any link or advice on how to do that?
  6. Yeah, I'll put pics up as it progresses
  7. No not yet, think I'll clean it up a bit first
  8. I'd need a shower afterwards !
  9. Looks really nice, yes I could do with a machine head, will post a pic of the back tomorrow.
  10. Cheers, I'll definitely gig it when it's up and running
  11. Funny you should say that, it had crossed my mind, also thought about a hum bucker in the bridge but have decided to keep the spend down and just clean it up.
  12. Just rescued this from a second hand shop for a tenner, hopefully I can turn it into something nice, as a cheap option I was thinking of giving it a slight roadworn look as there are a few nasty chips in the paint. Reading round on here it seems they are pretty good basses for not much money, any point in upgrading pickups and pots etc?
  13. Sounds like we're looking for the same tones, I always had a clean sound straight into the amp, now using a sansamp and enjoying it. The Nikki Sixx one was the first one I saw, that led me to the sea foam green, I was slightly annoyed the Sixx had luminlay and the green didn't, but it can be retrofitted if you're handy with a drill!
  14. I took out my jazz that I'd built from parts last weekend, it sounded awesome so that style of bass is the way I want to go. I've played mainly G&L's for the last 20 years, an l-1505 and an l-2500, I was never totally happy but as my wife had bought me the 2500 I stuck with it. Recently I tried a P bass and it wasn't really my thing but since building the jazz I've realised what I've been missing all these years. Now I want something off the shelf rather than something I knocked together. I don't think I've heard a bad word about the J4!
  15. That's a lovely pair of basses!
  16. Do you mean the metro express? Just had a quick browse, cheaper than the Schecter but didn't look as amazing, I know it's not about looks but that J4 has really grabbed my attention, reviews seem good and there are nice touches like full access to the top frets, vintage or modern sound via a push pull, easy truss rod adjustment etc. I'll probably stew on this for a few days before moving on to something else 😆
  17. I've just seen one of these online, sea foam green, what a beautiful looking guitar. Being on the look out for a jazz type bass I wondered if anyone has one of these and can give me some idea of quality, being as it's made in Indonesia, also seems a lot of money (£945) for something made there, not a problem of course if it's as good as it looks.
  18. Think I may have solved my problem, Premium series made in Japan, the l2k has a jazz type neck, reading around the quality seems to be very good and shipping doesn't seem to be problematic either. Now to see what I can find!
  19. I've got the single coil mod on my 2500 but never use it, I really wanted the 2000 to work for me but don't think it will. I cut through the nerve on my fretting hand index finger a few years ago and I'm finding the large neck difficult when compared to my jazz. Doesn't sound like the Kiloton will work for me as I don't like the bridge pickup solo'd. Is it just me or are G&L's getting really hard to find here in the uk?
  20. Kiloton Tribute, my 2500 is a USA model. I considered the l2000 tribute but there doesn't seem to be much difference in the neck width between that and the 2500
