  1. 👍
  2. I quite like the fact that it's got a P style neck, I've got a Kiloton with a jazz neck which is beautiful to play but it's nice to have a bit of variety
  3. Yeah I was going to leave it as it is but just placing the bridge on the body left a scratch that I had to sand out, I think it had a sharp edge or something but it seems very easily marked, I did a bit of sanding on the headstock and it seems to have removed the woodgrain leaving an almost white finish, not sure what's going on there so I'll probably have to paint it now.
  4. I've rebuilt the bridge now, the saddles cleaned up nicely and I bought new screws and grub screws, also rebuilt the control plate with new pots and knobs. Not sure what to do with the body, I've sanded it down and quite like the matte look so I might finish it with matte lacquer or I might redo it in metallic black with a high gloss lacquer, I've never painted a guitar before though so not sure how well that will go!
  5. Cheers, will give it a try
  6. Quite happy with the roadworn bits, it was either that or get it resprayed and I don't think it's worth that kind of money. Scratchplate was courtesy of @PaulThePlug, thanks very much Paul, I've saved the main plate of the bridge, the saddles and the springs, the grub screws and the intonation screws were a bit too rusty to rescue so I've been able to order those from eBay. The pickup covers were rough so I've ordered a couple of those, plus a new set of knobs, just waiting for Northwest Guitars to get a set of machine heads in stock, then I can start putting it all together.
  7. No I noticed! Can't find a set of chrome ones anywhere at a decent price but not in a hurry, still have work to do on the body.
  8. Vey kind, thanks. What are those machine heads like? I was looking at the Wilkinson ones at Northwest Guitars but they seem to be short of chrome ones at the moment.
  9. That's ok, could probably do with replacing them all.
  10. Thanks, I think mine will be ok, might even change the colour, I quite like red tort on a black bass, anyway...photo of the machine head below
  11. Yeah sorry, I was going to post photos of the machine heads but forgot, I think the scratch plate will be ok with a good clean, what colour is the one you've got?
  12. Great info, thanks
  13. They look great, it's nice to know they're worth a mod or two, the series switch sounds interesting, any link or advice on how to do that?
  14. Will do!
  15. Yeah, I'll put pics up as it progresses
  16. No not yet, think I'll clean it up a bit first
  17. I'd need a shower afterwards !
  18. Looks really nice, yes I could do with a machine head, will post a pic of the back tomorrow.
  19. Cheers, I'll definitely gig it when it's up and running
  20. Funny you should say that, it had crossed my mind, also thought about a hum bucker in the bridge but have decided to keep the spend down and just clean it up.
  21. Might be a good investment 🤣
  22. Did it get much use?
  23. I'm hoping!
  24. Just rescued this from a second hand shop for a tenner, hopefully I can turn it into something nice, as a cheap option I was thinking of giving it a slight roadworn look as there are a few nasty chips in the paint. Reading round on here it seems they are pretty good basses for not much money, any point in upgrading pickups and pots etc?
  25. Sounds like we're looking for the same tones, I always had a clean sound straight into the amp, now using a sansamp and enjoying it. The Nikki Sixx one was the first one I saw, that led me to the sea foam green, I was slightly annoyed the Sixx had luminlay and the green didn't, but it can be retrofitted if you're handy with a drill!
