@LeftyJ Good questions on dimensions and I'll get the digital calipers out and come back on them. Thanks Rob -
Loking for help on a Telecaster or similar....
rwillett replied to rwillett's topic in Other Instruments
@BigRedX Thanks, It's the distance from the fretboard to the back. My jazz and Mustang are thin necked. I actually have big hands and can hold a size 5 rugby ball. When I press on for chords, its really straining the thumb and it's painful. @Rumple I'll have a look and perhaps have a chat about your (guitar) neck. I enjoyed building the guitar as it was a great father/daughter time, and if she wants to keep the guitar, no issues at all. It sounds great, but it's just too thick for me. I hadn't seen the Strat, will also have a look. Thank you for helping. Rob -
Unsure if this is allowed here, or I will be excommunicated with immediate effect, but here goes. I'm looking for a decentish guitar to play mainly rhythm for home recording. I am not likely to turn into a heavy metal shredding lead guitarist. Now there's loads of guitars out there that can do this so why am I asking for a little advice or help... 1. I have really bad thumbs from playing rugby. I made a Telecaster from a kit a few weeks ago with my eldest daughter and thoroughly enjoyed it. It also plays very well, but the neck is so thick, it hurts my thumb. This is not a little ache, this is really painful on the thumb. I do not have this playing my MIJ Jazz or MIM Mustang bass as the necks are a lot thinner. I can't work out which of the Fenders or Squiers or Epiphones have slim necks. 2. I don't really live near anywhere that I can go and try without losing a half day in travel. I'm time poor at the moment. 3. I like second hand guitars, but its difficult to work out which of the guitars have a thin neck. 4. I am assuming (bad word in my line of work) that people here play other things than bass and are happy to help. 5. Budget is circa £500-£600, so that gets me into entry level Fender territory. I like Fenders but am not wedded to them, so if somebody can suggest a Squier or Epiphone or whatever guitar that works thats fine. I'm not a snob about the name on the head. 6. Somebody might be looking to sell one neat North Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria area Any help or advice welcome Thanks Rob

If I can get a 59 Precision out of it, I'll do whatever you want Shame, pride, I've heard of them...

Thats me down to a 'T'. I will always go the extra mile or 100 miles to help people out. Think of me as an angel of mercy helping you declutter and take old things away. I do this a charitable effort and I do not look for thanks. I prefer to work quietly and so just let me know when I can pick this up and take this weight off your shoulders. I'm completely flexible as well, I will pick up old Les Pauls and Strats, I swing both ways. It's not a problem at all. Thanks Rob

I got a Fender Mustang (MIM) a few weeks ago and I'm finding I'm playing that over my 97 MIJ Jazz. Being able to change the pickups on a switch and the sheer ease of playing is wonderful. The more I play it, the more I want to play it. I love the Jazz but the Mustang is so much fun. -
That look awful, really terrible. In fact so bad that I feel I need to take it off you just so you don't have to look at it what is, to be frank, a pretty bad guitar. There is no charge for this service, I do it as a gesture of goodwill that I extend to anybody with a pre 62 bass. Please, no thanks necessary, just let me know the address and I'll be round shortly. Please pack the bass carefully though. Thanks Rob

Nice to see that some people think the same way. I don't have Facebook at all because of their tendency to rape and pillage your private data. I have similar ideas to @Woodinblack and @chris_b to keeping my IT safe from this sort of overreach of data. I have stopped poisoning the well with bad cookes but might well start again. I do realise how many cookies are set and how they are used. Rob

Where is this forum here? I looked and failed to find it so I'm assuming I'm useless (good default setting according to the CFO)

Almost as if they made a guitar without ever seeing one and having it described to them

It's orange as thats Prusament orange PETG and that was on the printer. The other printer had black and that was too dark. @Smanth knows all about this colour Rob

I have an iRig HD 2 interface. It works really well on my Mac but its very light and cables move it around and it's a PITA to keep it steady. So I had a think and realised I had a little tripod which I used for Raspberry Pi stop motion photography. My daughters were keen on this a few years ago but no longer, Its a desktop version, is small and well made and hence heavy. It has a standard clamp on the top of the little plates for attaching cameras to. I looked at the tripod and the iRig. Tryed to cable tie it to the tripod and realised it looked garbage and the obvious answer was to print a iRig HD2 holder with a built in section for clamping to. It turned out rather well, see pictures. if anybody wants the STL file, the Fusion 360 file or a gcode file to use themselves you can have it and do with it whatever you will. If you ask me nicely I'll even print and post it for free. A voluntary donation to the North West Air Ambulance is welcome but not essential I'm rather pleased with it. It holds the guitar cables securely, doesn;t move with the guitar cables and you can access all the controls quickly and easily. The iRig slides in and out, it's tightish but not difficult to remove.

I have no shame asking as I'm not that knowledgable and would miss obvious things that other people who know more would immediately spot. In return, I can advise on all sorts of useful things such as public sector procurment, contract law as it pertains to G-Cloud contracts, delivery of complex IT projects, C/Perl programming and Unix kernel development, 3d printing and coaching girls rugby teams. A rich source of information that apparently nobody has any interest in whatsoever Rob

What this has taught me, is that before I buy, check with people here about their thoughts and also if a guitar price is too good to be true, it may be too good to be true. Rob

Somebody has put a lot of time into this. They may not have done a good musical job but 1. There are the right number of strings for a six string. 2. The bridge appears to be in more or less the right place. There does not appear to be any holes from where a blind person has attempted to repeatedly attach the bridge. 3. It appears to be one guitar and not the off spring of two random guitars smashed together. 4. From a wood working point of view, there is skill here. I couldn't make that, but then again I struggle putting a nail in a plank without losing an eye. On the downsides, 1. The frets are so high, there is a small micro climate in their shade. 2. The head looks like it's heavier than the body. I don't think neck dive would be a problem, as you may never pick the head up off the floor. 3. The strings look like actual string but that could be my eyes. Your point about how it sounds is spot on. I have no idea how it would sound and would love to know. As a prop in a film, or in somebodies man cave, this might work. I like it in a sort of eccentric kind of way. Would I pay £300 for it, no. Would I pay anything, probably not as I'm looking at another <ahem> non bass guitar for my daughter. The CFO explicitly asked me yesterday how many guitars I have. That was a very difficult question to answer that didn't involve a lie. So I invoked the "weren't very expensive" counter argument and mumbled a bit about saying "six" then realised it was "seven" and had to correct myself. I then said some were my daughters (who can;t actually play). This provoked a raised eye brow, so suspect I'm sleeping alone for a night or so 😢 Rob

You're absolutely right, it is still there. It had something like item not available when i glanced at it yesterday. I could also have been completely wrong, but am a little surprised. Perhaps Reverb likes the 8% they get off this. Rob

That's a problem I'd love to have. They do say you should never meet your heroes, perhaps it's better if I never have a 60's bass. To be honest I couldn't play well enough to do it justice. I've a 97 MIJ Jazz and a MIM Mustang and they are superb guitars. I can't complain about them at all. I really like the Mustang. Nice problem to have.

That's so unfair 😩

It's no longer on Reverb now

I love the writing on the case just to remind you there's a drop dead gorgeous 64 Precision bass inside. Just in case you forget which one it is 😊

I think id need to self medicate to play that. Would be great on Game of Thrones or similar

My first attempt to build/assemble a bass guitar

Very very nice. The guitar extrudes attitude. I’d be over the moon if I accomplished what you’ve done. Rob
