    Cici here!

Well, sadly I can’t help being a girl, and I have long hair because I like it. It has nothing to do with my playing, and I’ve never rested on my looks to gain followers, nor am I interested in anyone who does.

I take great pride in being the best musician I possibly can be, and it’s about the music for me.

I also dedicate a lot of my time to trying my best to help other people pick up the instrument, sharing any info I have, and seeing where I can push the instrument in my solo bass jams.

I’m not interested in being an ‘instagram girl’ so please don’t diminish me to that, and take the time to truly look at what I do (whether you like it or not is fine). Thank you. :)

Love your videos and I see you can play all sorts of styles with a unique sound and really enjoy it. Real inspiration for me.

I bought one of these around the end of March. £300, B stock because it didn't come in the original box. Not a mark on the bass itself.

It feels, plays and sounds great. I absolutely love playing it and the fact it was such a bargain.

I previously had a 2010 American standard precision which I just didn't gel with and got rid off.

I had been playing a short scale for the last couple of years, but as much as I liked it, I just couldn't get the 'big piano' tone I was after.

    This delivers!

Currently gassing for the seafoam green jazz from the same line.

That sea foam green jazz is lovely.

  3. I find female fronted bands - cover bands in particular - work better when they don’t try and copy the original style slavishly. Make it your own style and it can fit the vocalist better and you’re not slaves to every detail the original song had.
There’s a covers band on YouTube called First To Eleven and I am addicted to their cover of Sum41s Fat lip and they’ve done loads of other great covers.

Hands down some pot bellied Euro guy in a dads cardigan 10-15yrs ago on YT. In a studio with a rack of 60's P's and laying it down like crazy..Minimal notes,, minimal movement but incredible feel and groove. Anyone remember?

Least impressed with Scotts Bass Lessons...same ole pentatonic thing everytime. As I've always said if you can't play on the One, in four and make em dance then forget it.

I don’t know who that is you are referring to but those sort of guys are amazing. You wouldn’t give them a second glance in the street or even at a gig until they start laying down a groove which makes your hair stand on end.

SBL - I am so sick of channels like this where it’s all fancy noodling and precious little musicality. Especially when they test gear and it’s all crazy slap or noodly stuff at the top of the fretboard. I’ve recently found a good channel which isn’t massively popular but he plays all sorts of real nice music and is clearly accomplished at all sorts of genres - I will try to find a link.

    EDIT Here it is. https://youtube.com/@deadbeatstudios

That may be tongue in cheek but there's an element of through in the statement.

Someone else recently posted about a musical equipment company that was offering all their big old heavy amps a virtually bargain-bin prices and still had no takers. I suspect that a large number of people hiring these rigs have them entirely for show and will only by switching them on if it would override be obvious that they were simply stage props. IME these days by the time you are playing stages big enough so that this kind of rig is drowning out the rest of the band, the PA and foldback you are using will have already completely surpassed it.

Well he always has them out on hire and is always looking for more to add to stock. I doubt the price to hire/deliver/pick them up will be paid by people just wanting them as stage candy. I was going to go and have a play through a few he has this week but they are all out on hire.
Maybe people still use them on anger but the convenience of having someone deliver them and maintain them for them is attractive.
I read that post about bargain basement amps but I’ve not come across anyone selling stuff at bargain prices.
I’ll ask my friend who is using them, maybe it will enlighten us all. He is a pro sound engineer so will know if they are being used as they were designed.

We play love machine, and we are a 4 piece band of 30-50-something men. Goes down a storm.

We get stupid requests, although the most stupid are oasis. as they say, I'll do anything for love, but I won't do that!

Love machine is a GREAT song, I love punk and New York hardcore but that song get me singing every time.
When pop is done well it’s unbeatable.

I once saw a Coldplay tribute band (not intentionally) and the best reaction they got was when they played 'I believe in a thing called love ' by The Darkness 😕

    That makes complete sense.
love the caveat “not intentionally” 😂😂

  8. A friend of mine owns a back line hire company and keeps sending me pics of their bass gear. Which I can’t afford nor need but I will be going to play though some of their kit soon I hope.
This is some of the SVT bass stuff he has.

I know his dad used to work for Sugden amplifiers BITD IIRC and he is very good with electronics so together they have been able to keep them in great working order.

He has GK and TC gear to hire out too.

I am thinking it might be not good to go and play though it as I reckon nothing else will quite sound the same - but I have to, don’t I?

(I won’t post the name of his company as not sure if it’s allowed? If I can I will do, any guidance?)

ampeg PF500 is a good choice for a head. I used one for a long time but eventually went to Ashdown RM500 EVO II as I wanted to be using a British product (made in China but I still want to be an Ashdown boy, customer service etc)

Has your GK got a send and returm loop? If so have you tried plugging a lead into it. Sometimes they play up and if your put a lead into it, it works.

    No it hasn’t.

Weirdly I just took it apart and checked the connections again and it’s working again fine.
