And if it's an M2.5 than the UNC equivalent will be 3-48 or if it's closer to M3, it will be UNC 4-40.

Imperial measures are quite a nightmare when you're not used to them. 😉

They are madness. I've used various converters and it's definitely a 3. I counted the number of threads on the screw at 14 and it's 3/8 inch long so that comes out as 37.3 tpi so it would be 3-36 or 3-40 possibly. Still can't find anything online locally. I'm resigned to just trawling round the guitar places with the saddle and the screw I have and trying to find one that fits. I've also asked the guy who sold it to me as he is a big vintage dealer and may have some lying around.

  2. You lucky, lucky people. I am resurrecting this thread! I just bought a 1976 Kramer so it has to be imperial and I need a grub screw for the very unusual offset saddles. It is (drumroll please) 3-32 or 3-36 according to my measurements. I expect m2.5 and a pitch around 0.7 in metric would do the job as at that size the difference is so minimal.

So I checked your useful links provided and.....nothing.  I'm in Mexico so everything is imperial anyway and can't find anything here either. I really don't fancy a trip to the old centre where all the guitar shops are but I don't think I have a choice.

Moral of the story....don't buy really old stuff!

One of those basses I've always wanted to own at least once.  Gorgeous.

If you can, do. It's one of those things where function and aesthetics mix perfectly and the sublime emerges, like an Eames chair.

And, before anyone says anything, I know I am a pretentious tw*t.

  4. Sorry that you can no longer play the longer scales. It must be gutting because from what has come up from you over the last months you really do have a fantstic eye for a good-looking and interesting bass. Did you get a picture of all of them before they started to go? It could have made a great mini museum.

  5. Off to see BADBADNOTGOOD tomorrow night. Only found out about the gig yesterday and I'm pretty excited. Always making interesting music and as it's Mexico City i expect they will have some cool guests and Chester Hansen puts down some lovely lines so having a good bassist is always a bonus.

  6. The problem with this stuff is that it can get a bit samey. Good if you're driving or want background but not really something to get deeply into. Agree the bass lines are fun but they also tend to get a bit repetitive.

There's a very distinctive guitar sound across most of these groups. I'm liking it, but would like to hear something different from time to time... I like the basslines and bass tones, a lot more variety.

  7. It can happen.....Ped fell out of love with his Vigier Passion, and now I am in love with it. I have no idea how you could ever fall out of love with something so wonderful but it just means others get to love it, I suppose.

I like playing the field but I have never had any desire to own a Ray. They look good and all but sonically don't really do it for me.

  8. I'm definitely into it. I wouldn't put TC and Arc Du Soleil on the same genre, myself but it might depend on what TC tracks are on the playlist. I expect you'd find it easier to find people to play Arc de Soleil style stuff as that is in the Khruangbin / Glass Beads camp and is more clearly instrument based. TC is more of a hangover from the 90s with that kind of deep electronic production but also more reggae influenced than most. If it's that lush electrónica / reggae mix you might find a band but I couldn't say where, sorry. If you like TC you could try Sofa Surfers and an album called The MIssing Two Weeks by Spectre as similar stuff.

  9. If you are desperate you can take the neck off and put the body in your hand luggage case and bubble wrap the neck and hold that like a souvenir. I did that with my fretless a couple of months ago and it worked a treat!  I have used a box that is 126 x 42 x 15, so well above the allowed dimensions, and it was fine. I have also used Hiscox and other hard cases without an eyelid being batted. On various airlines. I don't think anyone wants to get the tape measure out, they are more worried about weight. I would risk it, smile and feign ignorance!

  10. That statement sounds a lot like the one our CEO read out on a big call recently when he basically said we were skint and loads of people would be losing their jobs but that 'leadership' would be open and honest. Complete and utter cow's turd! If you have to insist in that way you've already lost most people. Well done to Ped for keeping them well away from here!

So pretty much every bass on this planet then 😉

apart from my new toy, a Kramer 450b. I think it is made from wood effect stone!

  12. Rhythm Stick I can get at 102bpm now but 104 is just that bit too fast. Funny how that small difference is enough to throw me.  Same with Teen Town, but the difference is more like 20bpm. I still enjoy playing it as an exercise. Chemtrails by Beck is the one that just twists me too much. Too much pick work and remembering stuff!
