  1. After doing some reading around the subject and looking into posts on Talk Bass, it seems that the issue I'm having with my Elf is that I'm just playing too hard and making the amp overheat, as it only really becomes an issue when I go hard playing with a pick, and in particular when I'm using my P-bass which has a much hotter output from the ceramic pickup than my Sire with Alnico pickups does. So it looks like the Elf will be relegated to a backup and rehearsal amp only, which is a shame as it sounds great.

What's that you say? Just play softer? What kind of madness is that?

In the interest of saying I'd tried absolutely everything I turned the gain down to about 9 o'clock, had to all but max out the volume, and turned the amp off during breaks to give the fan a rest, and after all that I only had one minor blip in today's rehearsal.

I don't think this is a workable arrangement to enable me to use the P-bass and Elf as the starting rig for a gig, but at least I have settings that seem to work in rehearsal and should work in a pinch in the the event I have to use it for a backup on a gig. Just have to hope my ABM can keep up now!

  2. Is it me, or is the Classfieds slower than ever at the moment?  Noticing a LOT of stuff hanging around for ages that would have been snapped up not so long ago...

No worries, and sorry if I was a bit brusque. It is a bit dissapointing, my P sounds great through it but it can only be used in stints shorter than a typical set or where the risk of me playing too hard is low, so if I'm going to use the Elf live I need to use the Sire. That also sounds great, but it's annoying to have that limitation on using it.

If it were that simple I wouldn't have posted about it, I'm not that much of an idiot. This seems to be a not uncommon quirk of these amps and is something I can live with.

  5. OOPS! I appear to have acquired another amp in an auction

  6. Dear Basschat, I have a problem. I am so happy with all my basses and amps etc that I no longer feel the need to come here and look at things endlessly. How long will this feeling last?

I'm surprised that it lasted long enough for you to submit this status!

TBH I'm pretty much at that point at the moment, with just the slight niggle that the amp I'm using is yours and will need replacing, so I can't let up just yet!
