  1. I took delivery of an Indonesian made Sub this week and am very impressed by how well put together it is. The action was too high for me but the neck relief was fine so a quick adjustment of the bridge saddles and it played a lot better. Love the neck shape, especially around the lower frets where it seems narrower and deeper than further up the fretboard. Only tried it running DI'd through Reaper with a little compression and light EQ but it sounded very usable. Bargain for £190 delivered, although I may have to order a thumb rest as I'm missing one something bad.

If I could have sold a couple of bits at short notice I'd probably have gone for the Ray 34 that was in the classifieds but this will do me nicely for now. But now I want to play a 'proper' Stingray to see what I'm missing out on :(

You shouldn't have said" nailed" , either. I can feel the floodgates of innuendo opening...

    In YOUR endo :D

    Anyway, in no particular order:-

    Gail Anne Dorsey
    Esparanza Spalding
    Carol Kaye
    Julia Rusicka

And the one who's made me pick up my bass the most recently is a Youtube bassist called Marta Altesa. She does nothing but covers and lets say has obvious appeal to the male viewer, but she always looks like she's having such fun when she's playing I usually end up grabbing my bass and trying to figure out whatever song she's playing.

  3. Andy has kindly dropped the box off so the bass should be ready to post by the end of the week. There's a few people who've expressed firm interests in a straight sale which is my preferred option so I'll be working through the personal messages in order of receipt to try and finalise everything.

I'll not bump the thread again unless everyone pulls out and it needs bumping or to update the bass as sold and gone.

  4. I own the Oxygen 25, I'm not really familiar with the in depth features but I can say the keys don't have a particularly nice feel to them. It's a nicely build product otherwise so see if you can try one out to see if the feel of the keys will be an issue for you.

  5. Thanks Andy, much better than I was able to manage! I'm playing so infrequently these days that it seems a waste to keep it. :(

I've had a few enquiries via PM and thought I'd update my position on a couple of things.

    1) Posting - I'm heading to my local music shop tomorrow for some bits and to sell an old synth and I'm hoping they'll be kind enough to supply me with a sturdy card bass box. If they do, I'll be able to courier the bass as long as I can pack it well enough. If the soft case doesn't fit in there as well then I'll keep it and knock £30 off the price.

    2) Trades - I'm only playing guitar and trumpet these days so rather stupidly for a bass site, I'm not looking for any bass trades! If I do need a bass in future, I've got my old workhorse on standby so I'm covered there, although a couple of very nice trade offers have come through and it's been tough to pass on them. Also, I've always kept a very compact pedalboard and I'm covered in that respect. I'd only really be interested in a trade for a telecaster or a decent intermediate trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn or similar Bb instrument. Oddly specific I know!

If you do have something to trade that doesn't fit in with the above, then feel free to ask. I'm not going to be a jerk to you if it's not one of the things listed above and I'll give consideration to everything that comes in. Maybe I don't know how much I want it until I see it!

  6. Ah, general bass porn? :D Sure thing. Apologies again for the poor quality phone pics.

    Back

    Headstock and a little fretboard

Fancy angle shot. Should give an idea of how thin the body is. The bass is very lightweight as a result.

  7. Looks interesting, I'm glad that they're concentrating on a few of the older gems they have among the huge amount of pedals they've done over the years. If it's a success, I can see them branching out and doing it for other pedals so maybe the OC-2 is on the cards!

  8. After much deliberation and having not played bass in a band for over 2 years, I've come to the conclusion that this bass isn't getting the love and attention it deserves so I've decided to sell it along with various other items in a clearout. It's a beautiful bass, a through neck which I believe is made of wenge and mahogany with an ebony board and a silver stained top (maple or ash, I forget). It plays and sounds fantastic, the only slight cosmetic issue is the fret markers which are cut too far into the fretboard from the 17th marker up. They've been filled and have no effect on the way instrument plays, they're just there if you look for them. It's had criminally little home use. I've taken it to practice once to try through a friends amp but other than that, it hasn't left my room.

I paid £400 when I bought it and I'd like the same figure back as this is still a lot of bass for the money. The bass comes in a soft case and with Schaller straplocks. I'd rather not trust it to couriers due to the soft case and I get travel anxiety so collection is preferred but I could get the train a reasonable distance for a contribution to the fare. UK sale only I'm afraid. I'm not looking for any trades at the moment. Any questions please ask. It was andydye's before it came to me so hopefully he can jump in if I've missed anything off! Apologies for the bad phone picture.
