PRICE DROP -
400380£
Hi,
I'm selling a Spector Legend 4 Classic with Bartolini PJ pickups and TonePumpJr active preamp.
I acquired the bass new from Bass Direct in Sept 2021. It has never left my studio and is in really good conditions.
Currently has D'Addario EXL165 45-65-85-105 (~4 months old).Quick (and monotone) demo here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/466792-npd-laney-digbeth-db-pre-featuring-graphs-📈📉/?do=findComment&comment=4776192
No gig bag or case included.
Collection only.Cheers,
Mario
EDIT: I decided to keep it. The bass is really well made in terms of finishing, feel and sound, it punches above way its weight. I just realised that I struggle a bit with the TonePumpJr preamp that is not exactly my cup of tea, but I decided to do something about it (e.g. change it or even remove it entirely) -
I'll check them out for sure.
Like I said before, I was keeping my eyes open to see if a Squier pops up, but it seems worth keeping an eye on these too -

If you were lucky enough an unmolested 90s Squier Jazz 'Silver Series' might turn up - these had a 40mm wide neck at the nut, the same neck as the 'Silver Series Precision', in fact. And were damned fine instruments, the pickups were superb as well.
This looks interesting. On a slightly different note, the Squier Vintage Modified and the most recent Classic Vibe seem to be really solid bass at super reasonable price too.
This to say, I'll keep my eyes open, but as if it wasn't tricky enough, I'm left handed...

yap, it all makes sense and just for the records, I'm happy with manufacturers sticking with their design instead and offering 20 versions of the same thing.
I truly believe that's the way to go!I was genuinely just curious
and yes, it seems relatively straightforward to make your own bitsa

Cool, all nice info guys, thanks. I'm just surprised there aren't as many J basses out there with a nut width > 1.5-1.6".
I'm trying to get my head around that, because I do like necks with a nut width > 1.65" and I know I'm not the only one.
All I'm trying to say is that I think there would be a market for that, unless there is a particular reason behind this choice that I can't think of. -

You missed it when it was listed on the marketplace here for £380
wow. well, that is a huge gap in price!
personally I'm not interested in this, but maybe at 380£ I'd have thought about it

Listed in March. Unlikely to still be available, the seller probably just never informed Arni that it has sold. Unless it's you and you happen to know more about it 😉
ahahh it's not me for sure!
but if anybody's interested easier to just send an email. otherwise it's just a bit of a guess I suppose. I have been checking shops like The Bass Gallery in London and there are some lefties there that have been listed for 1+ year.

Hi,
I was wondering what are the jazz basses out there that by default (no mods) come with chunkier necks.
Anything let's say 1.57" upward, C profile, etc..With "jazz basses" I mean anything with the classic JJ pups configuration, both passive and active circuitry.
Cheers,

The Rumble series wasn't really appealing to me, but I have to say I think this (and some other recent events ) made me reconsider it.
I have to say, I like the sound even if I don't feel it belongs me. It looks like it has its own sound (as in it colours a bit), and tbh as long as one knows that, it's OK.
I also feel like this would work well in the mix.The "Full/Low" switch seems useful to.
All that said, I didn't try one -

Would be much better if it had a steel insert that opens beers.
I think G&L got close enough

Funny that, when I posted above about Beatles and cultural influence on essentially white music I was thinking about Kraftwerk’ influence on early hip hop, and especially Afrka Bambaataa’s opinion that without Kraftwerk there’d have been no hip hop. That's a bit of a stretch.
Kraftwerk have been essential, but hip hop owns a lot to the Jamaican sound systems and djs (toasters, mc).
Dj Kool Herc had Jamaican roots afterall

Just don't go doing a bit of DIY wiring unless you are absolutely positive they are fully discharged.
I'd hope it's easy to disconnect them, but I haven't seen one so I don't really know

You say we are bass players, and we are all here?
No 9 V batteries were harmed during this writing process.
I was thinking about the recycling aspect of this

I bet it's lost all that warmth too

NS Design using supercapacitors instead of batteries on some of their basses.
They charge in few secs and last for 16h!

Never had or tried basses that use an external PSU but, considering I always feel bad when I think how many batteries we all use for our active basses, I really like the NS Design solution for their NXTa RADIUS Bass where they use a super capacitor you can charge in few seconds and it lasts for 16h!

There have been some attempts, but I don't think anyone's willing to lock themselves into a system that might limit their options. And I can't see that there's any incentive for existing pedal manufacturers to adopt someone else's format until there's mass adoption.
It'd be nice to think that an alliance of small-to-medium indie pedal builders could all agree that jacks-on-top was the new standard, and then the big boys would recognise the demand and follow suit.I would also question these examples as genuine "universal" solutions. it might work for some, but I'm quite sure not for everybody (hence why it shouldn't be a standard).
A lot of people do prefer having pedals far from each other for various reasons (eg avoid stomping on 2 pedals at the same time, to control pedals with both feet, etc.).
Not always easy and cheap, but there are solutions that allow to hide pedals and have a multi-pedal/router/matrix to control them all.
I'm not trying to say that is neither a standard nor the perfect solution, but it's a solution. -

I think the theme here is that it's not that you have a bad bass, but if you'd bought the same thing several years ago, it would have been better.
Partially yes.
As in, I genuinely don't think it could have been any better sound-wise and feel-wise.
What they could have done though, they could have saved me from having to setup the bass (intonation) and from having to worry about all these little things.
But, most importantly what I think is the real issue here is that 2 people buying the same bass might get a totally different instrument quality-wise. And that's concerning since it's G&L.
String price increases. Nearly double for some.
