  1. I have to say for that kind of money I would be looking for a German made one. I gig a Streamer Stage 2 (91) and its brilliant. I use an old Thumb as well. But to answer your question, yes I love the neck through basses but I used to gig FNA Jazzman and that was a great bass but I replaced it with the SS2. I would advise buy used and you will get so much more for your money than new.

This is back at Bassdirect, I was quite interested last time before it went. Do you reckon its still the slim neck era? Id beinterested to see if the LEDs could be added back in, as my onstage eyesight is getting a little dodgy under stage lights.

I have a '89 one of these. It looks similar apart from the older ones had carved back of the head stock. I have a '91 stage 2 and that is similar neck like on my Thumb.

It is interesting how big the battery compartment is. Looks double to my two '89 Thumbs so I would be interested to know if this is 18v.

  3. Yes it is nice to rediscover your instruments. That's why I am always reluctant to move them on because I usually put in quite a bit of research and choose them for a specific reason. And most of the time they have worked for me.

  4. I went to a band practice last night. We have not had much time of late due to conflicting diaries so we mostly just do the gigs. We have now a new singer so a rare chance to run through songs in practice setting was on. I am not much into buying and selling bass guitars and currently have 3 basses. I have two 5 strings and have mostly been using the one I bought 2 years ago.

To stop this rambling I used the old 5 string last night and I was blown away. I bought it as a student in the mid '90s and chose it for a reason. It could handle jazz soloing all over the fret board and chords along with classical pieces to Motown and anything else I might throw at it. I spent so many hours on that fret board. It was like a home. But I guess we all fancy a change so I had stopped using it until last night. I kept making mistakes because I was not listening to the band but to the core tone and possible variations thereof has I applied different right hand techniques. I remembered why I had chosen this bass all these years ago and what a pleasure it was to play it.

Have you guys had similar experience?

  5. I have been a fan since Vivid came out. Totally loved the music and Muzz's playing. I thought it was very tasteful and fitting and brilliant rock stuff. I spent a lot of time as a teenager learning those lines and Times up and Stain included. I have bought the albums after that and they are ok but nothing on par with the old stuff.

As has been said they should have been massive with all this talent. Vernon Reid is the reason I am obsessed with Hamer guitars still today. I have to admit though even if I like his song writing and over all tone and playing his solos are crap. I just dont get them.

But Will Calhoun is one of the baddest rock (and overall) drummer there is. I would put him in the top five of my fave drummers.

can this be powered off a 9v power supply?

    No I am afraid not.

I thought I would address few things. I have had a couple of messages regarding this little thing regarding pricing and function.

I was just coming up with a fun sales pitch so if you are not familiar with this I will skip to what this is and what this isn't.

I bought this in late 1995 to go with my Yamaha RBX1000. It had mediocre electronics but this box sorted it all out and made it sound amazing. Sadowsky had his wonderful basses fitted with a preamp and this little box is just that. The on-board electronics you got with his basses back in 95. I used it for 2 years but I started playing Warwicks in 97 and never used it with any of my Warwicks. I had no reason not to used it but just never did. So this preamp has sat in its box for almost 20 years. Before I put it up for sale I tried it with Streamer Stage 2 with Barts and Thumb with EMGs and its sounded gorgeous. The only reason I thought of selling was because I had not touched it in almost 20 years. I have no need to sell this and if no one wants it no harm done and I might start using it.

Its also worth to note that this is not a DI so if you are looking at this and hoping you can use it as such I cant answer that for you. I dont think so. I have DI in all my amps so i dont need a DI box. This is also not a stomp box just a preamp so you might be able to fit this on your FX board if you want but there is only battery and no external power supply. Remember this is from 1995 and was just your normal on board electronics.

However (and this is the best part) it has a clip on for the strap (no not a strap-on). So you can hang this off your strap and look amazingly cool and all the groupies will look at you in pure astonishment and I can almost say, want your babies.

All joking aside if you are thinking about this you can shoot me an offer (since I have had few mentions of the price being too close to the DI, which this is not) and I will give it a thought but please dont have hurt feelings if I say no.

Thanks for viewing and if you would see the clip-on in action I could perhaps put a photo of that up if that is going to be the make or break for you wanting to have this box of joy part of your life.

  7. Outboard Sadowsky bass preamp

If you are either a bass player or just play a bit at home but you are not happy with your tone/sound this is your solution. If you are thinking about changing pickups, getting a preamp, getting a new amp or even getting a new expensive bass hold your thoughts. This little magic box will make your dreams come true. How I hear you say. Well the well known magician Roger Sadowsky cooked this little box of dreams up in a faraway land in a fairy city called New York. Many a New Yorker fell under this spell (Will Lee and Marcus Miller) to name a couple.

What will this do for me I can hear you think. Well if you are at home your wife/girlfriend, husband/boyfriend will run through to where you are playing asking if you have just spend £3,000 on a brand new Sadowsky (cause as we all know everyone recognises the Sadowsky tone) and you can say no no. Your band members will think that your playing and tone has transcended to another level and they will be thinking if they are worthy of playing with you and the groupies they will ......................

Why are you selling this box of amazingness I hear you say. I used this in the '90s with a decent Yamaha but the electronics let it down. Bring in the Sadowsky and the bass was transformed. I moved on to Warwicks and 5 strings so I never used this bewilderingly brilliant box much at all.

It is in a mint condition and the difference of using this instead of on-board preamp is that you can use it on multiple basses.

And finally you are thinking this must cost me a fortune but I tell you this can be yours for £150 shipped.

  8. Hi the only reason I parted with the FNA Jazzman because I wanted an early Stage 2 which gingerfish had. Which still is my main gigging rock bass and will continue to be so. If that trade would not have happened I would still be gigging that FNA. It was a great bass but I have to say it is looking fantastic now if I did not have a 6 string fretless I would buy it back.

This is highly recommended seller so deal with confidence. One of the most comfortable trades I have done over the years.

  9. I came across another item I have and was thinking of maybe selling. But I have no idea how much its worth. So I don't want to put a crazy price on it but I am not sure if its against the rules to pose the question.

What do the mods say about that?
