  1. That was quick! Cheers guys, do you know what I’m pretty sure I disappeared down that rabbit hole a few years back, reading people’s build diaries etc… no idea how I forget about it!? Must have been one of the different designs, but still… you’d think I’d have remembered something. As soon as I saw the name I was like “wait… oooohhhhh yeahhhh!!!”

Is that Bass head logo an actual trace thing then?

Has anyone seen these before, or come across the logo anywhere? Unsurprisingly a Google search of ‘Bass Head’ doesn’t come up with anything useful!

I originally thought these were PA bass bins or something but went to pick them up, local to me, and they’re 10” speakers, one cab has feet the other had castors (suggesting they were stacked) they’re plywood constructed, very well made and the inside is lined with foam/wadding. Eminence beta 10a speakers,  neutrik speakon sockets… I haven’t checked what the horns are.

I guess it could be a well made DIY thing but I thought I’d ask in case anyone knew. They could obviously be more PA/DJ related but the fact I picked them up with a bass combo and a random Trace Elliot foot switch made me think bass

What's that bit of wire/metal stcking out of the bridge on that pic I posted above btw? Seems like there's a bar connecting the saddle screws as well, is it a bizarre earthing strip?

The more I look at it the more confused I get.

I’m not sure, I figured it was an attempt to stop that wandering g string (my new band name) but yeah it may be even weirder than that… perhaps the only way to truly know is to buy it!

I had one of these some years ago and it was really good..

The option to blend the valve and the solid state channels, worked really well, and getting a very useable tone out of it quickly in a gig situation was dead easy with the on board eq.

It sounded good with both 4 and 5 string basses and was pretty loud IIRC..

very much agree with all this! One of my favourite amps ever

The OC-5 is great, first octaver I've tried were you can genuinly say there is no point in paying more for an OC-2.  It nails the tone and fixes the volume issue with the original.  Top notch quality, the Japanese Boss pedals too.

you see this is what will end up making me buy one! I dismissed it when I realised that although I just love octave pedals in general, that the OC-2 is still my favourite, no matter how many I buy! I’ve never owned the OC-3 or OC-5 though so perhaps the latter could be worth a try

Trouble is I’ve ended up in a weird obsessive quest to try every clone of the oc2, I have no idea why!?

Closed.  Apparently there was "an error in the listing".

    (No, I'm not either.)

well that’s no fun, I was genuinely interested to see if something like this would sell. I remember seeing Michael Anthony in Bassist magazine many moons ago with his… it’s certainly not a bass you forget!

to be honest it’s the only reason I remember his name!!

I absolutely LOVE the run of the strings from the tuners through the wrong end of a BBOT.

45-degree angle through a tiny, rough hole ... what could possibly go wrong?

yeah, I mean he did say in the listing that it just “hangs on my wall as an ornament” - maybe that’s the best place for it!

I always wanted to be a drummer, but lack of funds or suitable place to practice never materialized.  Got given a bass at 14yrs old so that was that.

Onwards to music college, had to choose a second instrument - drums it was.  Had an awesome teacher called Martyn Webber.

Had a kit every now and again when practical, even gigged as a drummer for two or three gigs!

Flash forward again, my eldest takes up the drums, gets kit, gets alright, chucks it in.

Now, I have a partially built garden room and a Premier Olympic kit waiting to go in!

12/14/20 mahogany shells, a Super Zyn ride and some Tosco hats - all of it older than me, and sounds great!

love it, great looking kit for sure! I have an old premier kit my Dad learned on, he gave it to me to learn on when I was a teenager… I’ll hang on to it in the hope one of my kids likes the idea of drumming and I can pass it down to them

Yeah I’ve heard it’s quite ‘big’ on bass!! Apparently the Daddy-O is quite good too. I believe Marcus Miller uses one.

yeah I had that one too but then got a Marshall Guv’nor (which it’s meant to be a clone of) so I sold it

  10. Yep, I’ve owned a few of these over the years, sold them each time due to lack of use… I tried other pedals but eventually just gave up and decided chorus wasn’t for me.

Then recently I got another in a job lot of pedals and gave it a quick try, search over, this is what I was looking for in a chorus pedal after all!

Chorus still isn’t my favourite effect but if/when I need it, I’ll be using one of these for sure

  11. So, I finally played my first Westone bass… it’s really good!

I know there’s alot said about these, and people are very much in the know anyway…. But I’m really surprised by how nice it is to play and how good it sounds. Especially considering this model is very simple (and a lower/student model type thing) but it just sounds right wherever I put the tone knob.

I know the thunder basses are the ones that get the most attention, but which other models should I keep an eye out for?

Even just in the spectrum series of basses there seems to be quite a few different models… I’m still learning what’s what, it’s clearly gonna take a while!
