Stephen takes great care of his gear, that's for sure - normally when you buy a pedal you have to scrape the beer off it but the Ashdown compressor he just sent me was cleaner than Peter André's dick.
Nice one. -
Funny that, I reckon they zing for longer than average! Certainly longer than Elites.
I think my sweat must be more evil than most! -
I regularly use the Warwick Red Labels. Like 'em.
Cheap as chips, nice and zingy, don't last long. -
I've seen them, I desperately need one, but $84 is not something I have lying about sadly. And I'd have to get 2 because sometime I use the Jazz and sometimes I use the Precision. Bah! Don't they need a bit of tweaking after you flick it back up to E?
Apparently not! I guess you'd have to be sure the string wasn't binding in the nut.
I searched Ebay to see if I could get them cheaper, or in Europe, but no luck so far. I'll let you know if I find one cheap, as I'm looking for one for a CIJ neck. -
I have an Ampeg SVT 410HE and I'm thinking of replacing the speakers with Neodymium Drivers. Ampeg suggest Eminence speakers, but there's a choice of 4 choices; Deltalite II 2510 250W 10"; Basslite S2010 10"; Basslite CA2010; Basslite CH2010 10"?
If I'm going to spend over £200 on speakers I want to make sure I get the right ones!!
Cheers

Is the cabinet sealed or ported? If it's sealed and you can measure the internal volume I can model them in WinISD and see which look most likely.
Alexclaber might be able to help. -
Between songs we do lots of prog sound-scaping, and I take this opportunity to re-tune as it seems to be only me that has to change between standard tuning and drop D. Sadly, our keyboard/synth player likes using lots of high frequencies that play havoc with my tuner (Boss TU-2). After a minute or so of trying to get in tune and failing miserably, I have to turn it off and tune by ear, which looks and sounds crap on stage.
Well if you do get to talk to her, could you ask whether she's ever had oral sex with Peter André, because I've often wondered and I don't have cable TV. -
I've just quoted precedents so far. Haven't yet mentioned turning up and finding one of the guests is an ex gf
Haha! I was going to add 'having current and at least one ex- girlfriend in the audience' as happened to me on Saturday.
My issue with trying new strings is that I hate the sound of all strings for the first few months. Because of this, the three basses that I own all have their original strings on them. The only thing that would make me change would be breaking a string. I might start a second hand string donation thread.
I like brand-new strings. PM me your address and I'll send you some nearly-news. -

Cheers, Spiny, I've bookmarked that. I was hoping to try some DR Jonas Hellborg strings but can't find them anywhere. -
Funk is actually an adjective and not strictly accurate as a 'music' although it has come to be accepted as such. It was originally used to describe something that had a certain indescribable feeling, the word is in fact a description of dirty and smelly.

Blood Sugar Sex Magic is funky as a m*****f***er, whether you choose to call it funk, rock or any other label.
edit: I knew it wouldn't let me say 'f***er' but I never knew m***** was a Bad Word! -
Up till recently I was thinking that my musicman didn't sound as good as it used to and I was finding there was far too much string noise, especially when I was recording.
I have used a few different makes strings but mainly D'Addario xls for years and had bought a set of elites as I needed some new strings in a hurry for a gig and that was all I could get and they sounded pretty good for a while.
I just bought some DR silver stars which seemed kind of expensive but I wanted to try something different.
They are a massive improvement on the elites to my ears and I have no problem with too much string noise now.
They have a deep, dark tone relative to other strings. I'll be interested to see how long they keep their tone.
The DRs might not suit everyone, especially if you want a really bright tone but if you're not totally happy with your bass tone I would recommend trying out some different makes of string to your usual ones. It might take a while to find the right ones for your bass but it might be a lot cheaper than buying a new bass or amp!
On the cheaper end of the scale try the nickel bass strings from the bulk strings section at www.juststrings.com they are pretty good for the price.
They want more for shipping than they do for the strings! Any European dealers? LordOfTheStrings don't do DR, unfortunately. -

Sound guys that stick a mic in the bass drum and an overhead over the kit then mix it up with the vocals and put it all through a pair of graphic equalisers, a puny power amp and a pair of 'full-range' speakers on poles. For a pub gig.
For years I got by with the two Hohner headless basses, the fretless and the 5-string, which both date from the 80s. The Stick purchase in 2000 was a clear-cut case of biting off more than I could chew, and I finally sold it last month. Last year I felt that there was a good chance I would be gigging again, and could use something more modern-yet-normal, hence the Tune. Now all I need is an amp, and a car to transport it and 3 basses in, and a license that would allow me to drive a car, and lessons on how to drive...
John Entwistle never had one. A driving licence that is.
Did you get the Hohners because they're easy to carry on a bike? That's why I got mine :-) -
Please dont shoot me!
I am a fan of John Entwhistle and The Who...
but I really think that solo is p*sh, it makes no sense? It sounds so trebley. The active electronics are so thin and overdriven that you cant make the notes out or any real 'scale/key/structure' he attempting to put together.
Sorry John not a goody for me!
Watching the wont be fooled again video got me thinking?? I wonder if Harry sheare based his character 'Derek Smalls' from Spinal Tap on John Entwhistle?
andy
Also a long, long time fan of the man, and I didn't much like it either. I don't think he's ever bettered his playing on Live at Leeds, or had a better tone (from a Precision).
Won't Get Fooled Again: I like that because he's almost as sloppy as me without drums and guitar to hide behind! But hear the same take with the whole band from that dvd and it's spine-tingling towards the end. -
Also makes it easier for a sound man if you use one amp. Expecting him to blend two mic'd or DI'd rigs to your taste can be a bit hit and miss as they're *often* concentrating more on vocals and guitars than the finer points of our chosen instrument!
Novel use of the word 'often' there ;-) -
sat in my back yard in the sun playing on the weekend, I noticed when I didnt touch the strings with my left hand and my right arm connected with the strings Id get an electric shock, ok its not all that bad, just felt like when you put your tounge on a 9v battery (come on, everyones tried it)
havent had chance to see if it does this thru my ashdown yet, and I was using an extention lead into a crappy 10wat amp.
But my bass is active so I was wondering if it had anything to do with that or something to do with the little amp and extention lead?
Certainly nothing to do with the bass being active.
Check that the earth wire from the amp is securely fixed to the mains plug. Then check the extension. It's worth buying a cheap multimeter for this sort of thing, you can probably pick one up from Maplin for a fiver.
If the earth between amp and plug is OK, get the house wiring checked.
