  1. After spotting a few classic 50,s i thought i,d better investigate. Folk were making some very big claims.

I received mine on Monday. I wanted it to be bad.   There was absolutely no way this mex guitar was making the rack with my other basses.

Me and a friend blind sound tested a US 60th anniversary p, US ltd rosewood and the classic 50 straight out of the box.

The classic 50 just had an extra 5%, too our ears. There was more feedback through the body despite inferior hardware and a badly cut nut.

It had a lower, woody tone all of its own in a mix. No doubt due to the one piece cricket bat neck.

I will swap the bridge for a babicz as i hate all fender bridges anyway, and round the fretboard edges.

But mines going nowhere, ever.  Someone needs to grab this.......

You will not regret it........ Decent price too

OK, there is no quoted output at 8ohms.  Quoted output is 1600watts RMS into 2 or 4 ohms (switchable).  Rule of thumb is that an amp will put IRO half the output at 8ohms as it will at 4ohms, the more efficient the amp so the output percentage will edge upward a little.  The Blacksmith would output between 800 & 900 watts at 8ohms.  Thing to bear in ming is that the output is very controllable, so connecting a low wattage cab isn't an issue as long as a bit of sense is employed!  I'd been running the Blacksmith into a Ampeg AV210 cab at home no probs - & that cab is only rated 200watts.
Indeed, the Blacksmith is in a very different class to the RH750 - both in terms of sound & build quality...the Blacksmith is TC's flagship amp, hand-built in Denmark and it shows - this amp is Solid!

I ve got a big baby T so seems a good match. And thanxs for the info

  3. Im a fan of the 6 string stuff. Not for me tho. The amp sounds like a bad 90,s korg pedal in person imo. They should have taken the route of the 2nd amp, Nextone where it concentrated the focus on emulating 2 or 3 different tube types and configs instead a catalogue of unusable effects. For me more than anything it seems tuned the same as their guitar speakers, sounds similar if you plug a bass into a a 2 x10 katana. lacked the rounded low end.

I‘m considering cab options for my OTB an 2 x OBC112 is a strong contender for the portability an flexibility. Can you get the full power out of the amp or do the speaker struggle to handle? Thx.

The 2 cabs are defo the way forward if portability is also a factor. Your ears will thank you for it. Its all about moving air. You,ll get more depth and punch from the 2 over one and you,ll be getting full beanz out of the head.

My mate services and repairs vintage hifi. He’s a proper geek with it. His shop is in Sherborne. Bit too far?

Postage is fine with me if it is with him. Hoping my dreams are answered by someone who lives up the road 😂😂. Thanks for the reply.

  6. Just wondering if any of you wonderfull basschatters know of anyone or of a decent vintage amp repair service (home stereo) .....pref in the wales area but will travel if needed.  My heads mashed , cant live without it, nothing else delivers the bass out of my 863,s in the same barbaric way 😂😂😂
