  1. That tort on the white bass is perfect. Can I send you my pickguard and we work something out? I'm just looking for an acceptable tort, I was fine with WD Music, so I don't think I'm too picky and as long as it looks decent, I'll be happy
  2. I couldn't get a satisfactory guard cut by tiny tone in Manchester. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/465816-p-bass-pickguards-uk/page/3/ This is what I got for a 60's dark red tort. Too much yellow for me. I will try gig.ink. Thank you
  3. Anybody have a Fender Japan PB bass they'd like to trade?
  4. Here are the pickguards in left with. Anyone want to trade?
  5. I think it looks great on grey too and if anything, black is more metal!
  6. They look very similar, but i somehow prefer the look of the 2nd photo, but i think it's because of the angle. I put the original dark brown tort back on the blue bass and am feeling calmer now. That pickguard is too much
  7. I got the Elixirs stock on a new bass I bought, I would not have considered them, but they are very good strings. Sound has not changed much in the last month and they are fairly soft, easy to play and feel and sound good, so I'm leaving them on. On another bass I put Rotosound SS66, and I liked them, but the bass is quite bright and the strings contribute to that. I've had them on for a month now and they have mellowed some and sound better. I didn't find them hard to play or anything like that. They seem to have more character to them than the elixirs but I do feel the elixirs will outlive them.
  8. Jack's instrument services and Tiny Tone are one and the same I think, same address... Glad you got the red tort and not the yellow abomination. Anybody on here want to trade some P bass pickguards? I got 3 extras in red tort, and 2 in dark brown tort
  9. I just wanted to try another pickguard on it. It looks busy in a rude way with this pickguard, but I will put the original brown tort back. I unfortunately wasted my money as none of the pickguards I got are satisfactory and will need to continue looking and shopping but I learnt my lesson.
  10. Yes, but it could have been cheaper if I had the original, I cutout a template from a sheet and sent it over
  11. Here is the pic of the guard on another bass. I do call this the abomination guard but it doesn't look like the end of the world is coming. Worked out that it fit the blue bass by accident. The white one is wearing the chinese £20 pickguard
  12. Would love to trade it for an Aria Pro SB700 or SB900
  13. Thanks for the advice guys, the other pickguard arrived and it's not that great either, but I had little hope and I do feel it was nice of them to try to please and perhaps I should have researched some more before spending my money. Those pickguards above look good to me actually. I got a tort for my Jaguar from WD Music and I was happy with that, I'm not super picky actually but I do know what sort I like, dark red, with minimal yellow spots and a variation of red and dark red. The Bass is a Momose and it would need to be custom cut. None of the replacement pickguards I had bought up until then fit, now I got 2 more that I don't like, and the one out of the 5 I do like, it doesn't fit on any of my basses and I got 3! I bought one of those nitrate 65-79 celluloid from ebay/ reverb and it was ok, but it didn't fit. Luckily that one now fit on the white Fender Japan P bass so at least I got one of the replacement guards on a bass. All the time and money I've spent, Spitfire doesn't look so bad in hindsight. Either way, Tiny tone aim to please, but do ask for some images of the pickguard
  14. Sure, I've got 2 that don't fit. One is a little more red due to less yellow spots. I'll take a pic of both and let you know. I don't need either, and you can have it for postage cost
  15. TinyTone just called to offer a free recut, they said if I'm not happy with the celluloid tort they can cut one that's not celluloid but has that look. Either way, if I get a good pickguard I'm happy with, it's all good. Nice of them!
  16. They refuse, they said I picked this color! They thought hard and long for a solution and decided to offer me a discount for a new pickguard but after £100 I already paid, I just couldn't spend more. They took no responsibility for the look, after I had asked for vintage 60's red with not much yellow at all. I am really disappointed by the lack of service, and then they turned around and blamed me for it. They were happy to leave me £100 out of pocket with that abomination, which says a lot about their customer service. i also sent them these pics asking to explain to me where are the dark spots in the pickguard they sent but they refuse to answer. They just said I picked that color and now I'm not happy that it doesn't match my imagination. So disrespectful.... Any other recommendations for some nice looking guards? Thank you!
  17. They shouldn't have taken £100 and blamed me for picking the color. Total scam
  18. I've been looking for a custom made pickguard for my P bass in red celluloid tort but I cannot find any. Most of them are too yellowish. I had googled and found Tiny Tone in manchester. They were very friendly on the phone and I sent them 3 pickguard to copy. In the end, they didn't have the materials so I ended up with only 1. Vintage 60's Red Celluloid tort, I told them I wanted to make my bass look like James Jamersons, and after £100, I got a really yellow tort guard, and not what I had asked for at all. Here it is, along with some other pickguards I got from china (for £20), the 'custom' ordered one is even more yellow than the other ones, even though I specifically asked for a 60's red tort like James Jamerson's bass. Does anyone else have any good places in the UK go get a custom made pickguard?
  19. The weight is around 4kg, I don't notice any weight difference vs my other P basses. Crews Maniac Sound is a brand originally associated with MusicLand store in Japan, they ordered some guitars and they sold quickly. From what I've read their guitars are made either by Momose (PNG) or Terade factories that also made the Gibson by Orville copies. Anyway, their Les Paul line of guitars is highly respected on the Les Paul forums, and some models, called 5D go for over £3500, so pretty high end. Also they also make their own pickups and one of the builders is the person who built the Dry Z greco pickups that are very expensive used if you can find any. This bass has great specs for the price, 2 piece body, Power Bomb pickup, vintage spiral bridge, nitro finish and gotoh pots. It's currently strung with Rotosound Swing 66's and sound growly and deep.
  20. Crews Maniac Sound P bass in dark lake placid blue with 'cloudy' lacquer finish. This one has the 5D Power bomb pickup which is highly respected and vintage sounding. Nut width is around 42mm, very comfortable neck, and a vintage style bridge. Weight is 4kg In terms of trades, I would like an Aria Pro II sb1000 or sb900, or would consider a white p bass

    Hello!

I'm a guitairst but used to play bass in a couple of Uni bands, and now I want to start playing bass again. I'm hoping to trade one of my guitars or amp for a new bass. I used to have a MIJ Jazz Bass and was very happy with it, but now I think I want to try a P Bass. Great to be on here and hoping to learn more about bass playing
