Raising the pickup heights isn't going to be easy without spoiling the look of the bass. It's something I'll consider as a future project, but not as a quick fix. So I've purchased (from Amazon, using the gift vouchers I received for Christmas) a Laney DB-PRE Digbeth preamp pedal. I'll let you know how I get on...

I was actually going to suggest giving the Laney pre a go, let us know if it helps.

Different strokes and all that - not sure why you want a video editor in a DAW when you can use a video editor?

But anyway, not trying to convert anyone, if it works for you, then its the best value for you.

I find it perfect for matching multiple cameras to audio very quickly.

Its far more intuitive than say DaVinci resolve which I use for colour correction (if needed).

  3. The video editing option in Reaper (as basic as it is although actually it really isn't) was what for me makes it the best vcalue out there.

Plus the stock plugins are fine and the free JS plugins (which run into the hundreds) are excellent, and look better.

Plus it runs on a fart and any old laptop or PC or 15 year old mac will run it beautifully, couldn't say the same for Logic X.

  4. I had the markbass compressore (had a valve), TBH couldn't tell the difference between that and a few regular compressors I've had over the years, but hey thats's compressors for you.

Never really understood them and again TBH I sometimes use them and sometimes don't and never notice much improvement in my sound.

  5. Whats everyone take on playing to a click track?

At our last studio visit the engineer rather wished he had played to a click to make his life a little easier when overdubbing vocals ( I think thats what he said but I could be mistaken)

We are due in next week and our guitarist doesn't want to do click as he says it'll take too long. We intend to only record one song for the day, like last time.

we have recorded a whole album over 2 weekdns which we weren't particularly happy with as it sounds a bit rushed and under produced.

Played one of the worst gigs I've ever done last night... horrible grotty little (anti) social club somewhere in the Midlands.

The sort of place pregnant women go to smoke.

There was a loud ten piece soul band playing a private party in the next room (who sounded pretty good to be fair),there were about 20 people ignoring us, half of whom were kids under ten.

Everyone was vaping indoors, including some of the kids I think.

There was American football on all seven enormous TVs and a dog wandering round.

One guy sarcastically danced, a women asked for Mysterious Girl by  Peter Andre, apart from that, total silence. No applause, no engagement, nothing.

I'd rather have played to the proverbial brick wall.
Longest two 45 minute sets in history. 😐

Played the StingRay and apologised to it four times.

We packed up in 22 minutes flat, which beats the previous record by nearly an hour.

Got paid cash and let us never speak of it again.

Lol, we did a gig like that last year.

A social club with about 10 disinterested punters.

At least you finished your sets, we got asked to pack up after the first set so they could put the jukebox on! Soul destroying...

  7. I've got a VT2-EQ thingy. Its a beast of a pedal with 2 x 12ax7 valves.

I loved using it but it was a bit noisy and the power socket is a bit loose so until I get it repaired it's out of use.

Dave made some great pedals, very sad he passed away.

  8. Think I may have finally found a permenant set up (or at least for a good while)

No rig, all into the deski via pedalboard (Laney Digbeth and zoom B1 four) and then back from the desk into a KT platform and IEM's

custom Jazz with sadowsky pickups and D'addario heavy guage flats seems to complete the picture.

  9. Our ampband PLI renewal has come around again and gone up from £55 to £77. Not too enthusiastic about that. Any other companies offering similar for less?

ps I’m not interested in joining the MU as it’s for the whole band and it’s pub gigs

    thanks
