1. Welcome to the site. I am an old starter too, and too started with a Squier Precision. Now have 16 basses! Whatever you buy someone will find a better one or cheaper one and there's so many good things out there. You should get plenty of great help and advice here though. What's your requirements - I've got a 300w Carlsbro Delta amp + cab for sale (c£300) and I expect to be coming down to Cornwall (Fowey) in the next couple of weeks. There's an ad in the amps sales forum though it's a few pages down now! Anyway, drop me a pm if you are interested. Enjoy the site. Phil.
2. FYI - There's a member in Cardiff called Schnozzalee who may well be looking to sell his Tokai. He offered that and a Guild Fretless for my Fender USA '57 Vintage reissue Precision, in black with maple neck and original case, but I am lookign to reduce the collection, not increase it. Tokai Hardpuncher with USA Fender Alcino P bass Pickup in Blonde with Matching headstock and maple fretboard. Anyway, it may be of interest to you. Cheers Phil
3.
Great amps these, did you know they were designed by Overwater? Good luck with the sale Dave
Thanks - Didn't know about Overwater. They are good solid kit. Perhaps I should be charging more! Phil.

Cash on collection or available after cleared funds. Sold as seen and no returns.
5. For Sale: My lovely Vintage '57 Reissue Precision Bass. Serial no: V143101. Made in the USA (around 2004 I think). It was used for about three months before I bought it and it is really good condition apart from some faint buckle rash though no scratches to the paintwork. It comes with the original case but no candy. The original pick guard was replaced by the black one prior to purchase and only the bridge cover is available. I have not gigged it or used it much since others in my collection arrived! Location: S.E. Wales. Cash with collection would be preferred, or cleared funds in advance of collection. Delivery may be arranged at extra cost, only on cleared funds. No returns can be accepted. Fender's Current specification for the model can be seen on http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0190115801
6. What you really need is a USA '57 reissue in black with black pickguard, with original case. £850. But I'm nowhere near Glasgow! Anyway, good luck with your search and enjoy the site. Phil
7. Don't knock the Claude - my band went there in August (more opportunity as the students have gone home) and we played 3 songs and were well received by the regular players as well as the punters. They have a good PA and ams for 2 guitars and bass. With the future of the Globe in the air we can't knock any venue. Cheers Phil
8.
Nice array. What's the wilson like? Any comparison to other 60s hollowbodies?
Sorry, it's my first experience of a semi-acoustic, though have an Aria acoustic. Originally it came with nylon covered strings but I have just replaced these with light gauge steel, and the tone has come alive. I need to adjust the truss rod as I'm now getting a lot of buzzing. It is very lightweight and the scale is slightly shorter than standard. It was advertised as having been on tour with Frank Sinatra in its past and is in excellent condition apart from a hole in the back where someone once repositioned the strap button. Phil
9. Hi all, I thought I'd just update my photos of the basses with the additions since Oct 07 - see my other thread here. From the left:- '77 USA Precision, 70s Gibson G-3, Musicman Bongo Special Edition, '68 Wilson Semi-Acoustic, G&L Asat. Cheers Phil
10. Last night I went to see Walter Trout in Cardiff. It was an excellent show as WT is a quality guitarist. What made it for me, but then I am biased of course, was the really tight rhythm section of Michael Leasure and Rick Knapp. There was nothing really fancy on the bass lines - just quality timing, phrasing and a lovely tone from his Lakland and Mesa amp. It is great to see someone playing just 4 strings! (Never felt the need for more but I'm old-fashioned). After the concert, as we left the Globe, I managed to have a chat to Rick and I am really pleased to say what a nice guy he is. A great night.
11.
Lovely collection. How're you finding the Bongo?
It's nice looking - black with gold hardware, well balanced, and the neck doesn't feel as wide as a runway, but I can't cope with an extra string as yet. Not sure of the sound value of the extra low notes, so not that bothered about it as a gigging bass, but I wanted one for interest and collection purposes, and this seemed a good buy. I will get it out more now I'm progressing well on 4-strings. Phil
12. Hi all, Thought I'd flash the collection - though I have added 5 mnore since then so will have to update the photo soon. From the left:- Floor: Curt Corbow Fretless, Fender Precision USA Vntage '57 Reissue (for sale) Standing: '83 Rickenbacker 4001, Aria Acoustic, Gibson Les Paul Standard (for sale), '77 Gibson Recording Bass, Musicman Stingray, '73 Fender Jazz USA, '76 Fender Precision USA, Fender Precision USA Vintage '62 Reissue, Fender Jazz USA Vintage '75 Reissue. Additions since then:- Wilson 1968 Semi-acoustic bass, Musicman Bongo 5-string special edition, Fender Precision USA 1977, G&L Asat, '70s Gibson G3. Difficult to have a favourite but for ease of playing it has to be '77 Precision - in black with maple - very JJ Burnel. The band (Deltasonic Blues Club) prefer the Ricky.
13. Hi Dave, Not heard of the bass bash but will check it out. I'm not far from Cardiff, in Magor, and play in The DeltaSonic Blues Club (see Youtube) I haven't been playing as long as you - started as a collector of basses. Not sure about 5-strings - 4 has always been good enough for the greats but have a Musicman Bongo 5-string that I am trying to come to terms with. I get confused easily by the extra string! Phil
14. I also took up the bass (no previous experience on other instruments either) late and started playing in my first band at the age of 51! It's great fun and if you haven't had any real playing experience, of any instrument, it is really worthwhile getting lessons. I've learned a great deal from my tutor about bass playing and music in general. The site looks good and seems very friendly and is not just a place for people to plug their bands (Deltasonic Blues Club). I'm hoping to pick some brains on the equipment side soon. Have fun with the playing and the site and from a relative novice my only advice would be to get the best equipment you can afford and don't be put off by the thousands of really talented 14 year old musicians you see. Our time will come! Cheers.
15. Hi - just joined up so a word of introduction. I play (bass obviously) in a fairly newly formed band in SE Wales, covering classic pub rock stuff. We have an exceptionally talented lead guitarist (without ego!) and a vocalist with a rich pedigree, and they have joined myself, a drummer and rhythm guitarist for whom this is a new experience. I'm a late starter (now aged 52) and got into this all through collecting basses - currently have 16 though will be thinning out over the winter. My favourite is '73 Jazz bass, thought the '83 Ricky 4001 is very pleasant. Interesting ones - Wilson SAB for late 60s, and '77 Gibson Triumph Recoring Bass. Amplification is Roland DB210, and have an old Carlsbro Delta 300w bass amp + cab, which really ought to be moved on soon, though it is an impresive piece of kit. I'm looking forward to seeing what tips I can pick up from obviously more talented folk on here. Cheers Phil
