  1. Update: bought the Little Mark head and tested it through a voltmeter - Presonus Studio 16 mic inputs have 3v max and happiest with mic level voltage (miniscule voltage). However, the test showed the MB peak volume quoted of 10v is with everything cranked up and the Line Out control really did lower the output to well below the mixer tolerances (to avoid distortion). However, we are going belt and braces by using the DI Line Out XLR output into the Presonus Line In input, via TS jack, which has a higher tolerance. The main issue was, even though the f-o-h sound was ok, the output to the in-ears was distorting. This solution worked well in rehearsal with my practice Behringer combo (which sends post-EQ with high peaks) - no issues at all. (Just the fan seems noisy).
  2. Just bought the Little Mark MB58R head and hooked it up to the MB58R Energy 102. Great sound but the fan is noisy though playing hides it, even at home practice level, and I imagine in full rehearsal or gig mode you won't notice it at all. I need get my Roland D-Bass 210 combo out again to compare. Uncertain whether to send it back.
  3. Thanks all. The in-built Mark Bass DI unit seems to have a very good reputation - a proper DI box, so with a little test session we should be able to gauge the required level. This will be used for the live performances, and the Behringer has happily been used in our rehearsals, via DI, so I reckon the settings I use are nowhere near peak output. It's not my Presonus so I want to be sure.
  4. I am wanting to send a post-EQ signal to the mixer via DI. The mixer is a Presonus 16-channel unpowered mixer. It has a maximum input voltage of 4v according to its owner. My current combo is a Roland D-Bass 210 which sends a signal pre-EQ. I had to use my Behringer 1200X as a sub the other week, which sends the signal post-EQ, with no problems. The owner checked the input with a voltmeter and found, 'in certain circumstances', the voltage could reach 20v. I am looking to change my kit and rather fancy a Mark Bass MB58R Little Mark amp which has a selection of Pre- or Post-EQ, as well as a Line Out control which can dial back (or up) the voltage through the DI. The Little Mark has 20Vpp (maximum peak of 10v). I want to be sure that the voltage sent to the mixer can be dialled back to ensure that the 4v input limit is not exceeded when using the Post-EQ setting. Any advice, experience is appreciated.   5. The owner has investigated the bass and can reveal that it is a Warmoth body (10pts to BigBassBob) and has Schaller p/ups. Very pretty, play well, what's it worth???

  8. I'm selling my Laney RBG500 Bass Combo. Looking for £180. 300x bass combo - it has been used as a practice amp though it was gigged before I got it. Condition is OK and it is working - apart from small signs of use the only visible damage is one of the tiny knobs at the end of a slider is missing, otherwise is complete as far as I can see.   9. Welcome...I was a late starter (late forties) and now playing in S.Wales cover band Turner Street Crash. Enjoy it, it is great fun. I have an '83 Ricky 4001 in Fireglow (among my 15 basses) - nice guitar but couldn't play it on gigs as it is uncomfortable and I think the tone is a biut too trebly for the Free/Bad Co songs that seem to dominate the set ('77 Precision does the trick). Once played an Indie Ricky copy which wasn't bad in feel but couldn't vouch for tone - it looked good, was light.

  11. Can anyone help me? I have been listening a lot lately to Free and Andy Fraser. I am being tempted once again by the voices in my head telling me that I really want a Gibson EB-0 or EB-3 (or SG). (My 16 basses are testament to the fact I have sinned greatly in the past, but have been very well behaved for the last couple of years). I have other Gibsons ('77 Triumph, '76 G3, Les Paul Std) so I am not a stranger to Gibson basses or even short-scale basses, though they are not a preference. So can anyone tell me how well they play, is the sound as good as Andy Fraser gets it, do they age well, and is an Epiphone (long-scale) version likely to disappoint if I chicken out of going the whole hog? I have heard they are very head heavy. Thanks.

  15. Sorry, no clips; more balls than 70s Triumph and G3 (my other Gibsons). To me it seems brighter tonally than T'Bird or EB-3, but that could be just how those players preferred to set them, though Humbuckers would suggest it would be. It's well-balanced, nice neck feel - fits the hand well. P.

Really great sound Maple/Mahogany body, mahogany/ebony neck, 34" 20 fret. 2- Humbucker p/ups. Original case, combination lock not set yet. Never gigged, rarely played, beautiful condition.   17. Hi, and welcome. Having started a mini collection of basses (16 currently but lookingto offload as moving house soon) I can contribute the following opinion (no more, no less as I am not an expert) that may help. Rickenbackers (got an '83 4001) - great sound, hard to get get set up right and to maintain the set-up, and the top edge makes for uncomfortable playing over longer periods. Gibsons - have a Les Paul standard - heavy, big sound, comfortable neck, but expensive - but they do look lovely. G3 - have a 70s one which is very good to play. They have issued a new version now which looks pretty interesting but maybe pricey. Triumph bass - short scale, so very personal preference to play this. Musicman - have a Stingray - well balanced, light, distinctive tone, great for all styles, but there is something about it I just don't like enough for it to be top, but you could pick up a s/h one for around £900 which would be a great buy. (Let you have mine, with case, for £975!) Fenders - I've a couple of 70s USA PBs which I love - incomparable tone, great looking (sunburst w/roseneck and black w/maple), lovely feel. Of the other PBs, the '64 reissue and '57 reissue are also great but the neck is thinner, front to back, and doesn't seem to fit the hand so well - but again it's a personal thing. I've an original '73 Jazz bass - probably my favourite of all, so doesn't get played too much! Beautiful. '75 US Reissue is everything you expect from a JB, narrow, fast neck, great tone. Pricey again. Lakland may be a good option. When my local music was open, I tried to play any different one they got in - and generally a lot of the 'cheaper' end are very good too. Maybe without any re-sale value, but will provide all you need. I do not have much experience of Yamahas, Washburn, Warwick etc, etc. You have experience - you know what you like - it is just a case of trying what you can get your hands on. But for me, it would probably be Fender all the way. Good luck - you'll have great fun trying to find something. Phil
  18. I have been reading the Badass II forum post (very informative) and while it is generally accepted that the Badass bridges are the most suitable, what others are OK for use on 70s US Precisions, and what other recommendations does anyone have? Thanks for opinions. Phil.
  19. I've posted photos in the porn section, but here's a listing of current basses in order of acquisition (all since 2004) - I haven't sold any yet though need to reduce the collection. Fender Precision USA Vintage '62 reissue, - Olympic white. Looks great but don't like the thin 'C' necks. Gibson Triumph Recording bass, 1977. - Short scale so takes a bit of getting used to. Like the tone though and it's a lovely piece of wood. Fender Precision USA Vintage '57 reissue - Black with maple neck, very JJ burnel, but neck observation above applies here too. FOR SALE £850 Fender Jazz Bass USA 1973 - sunburst, beautiful, just started playing this on a regular basis and loving every minute. Rickenbacker 4001, 1983 - Fireglow, and is a favourite with the band but not overkeen on the tone compared with a Fender. Musicman Stingray - Candy red, it's OK. For SALE £900 Gibson Les Paul Std - Cherry Sunburst - love the Gibson tone and playability but it's so heavy. FOR SALE £1250. Fender Precision USA 1978 - sunburst, love the neck as it's just a bit fatter and fits the hand beautifully. Aria Acoustic Fender Jazz Bass USA Vintage 1975 Reissue - natural with maple neck, black position marking. Very beautiful, FOR SALE £1250 Fender Precision USA 1977 - black, with maple neck. Looks and sounds great and my most regularly used. Cort Curbow Fretless. It's OK but rarely use it. FOR SALE £150 Wilson Semi-Acoustic Bass 1968 - quite a rare beast and refitted with steel strings and the tone is brilliant. Very light. Musicman Bongo 5 String, special edition - Black with gold fittings. But why 5 strings (or more)? I don;t think the B-string adds much tonally but then I am old-fashioned. G&L ASAT - black with maple neck, looks good, sounds better, but someone else's comments about nose dive are true. Gibson G3 1970s - natural. Gibsons always sound great. Probably should sell more too. Phil

  21. Can anyone help? I'm pretty much tecnically illiterate. My active Cort fretless plays fine for about five minutes. After that, the sound suddenly dies until it is barely audible. It's like a cut-out switch is triggered. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks Phil
