  1. Damn. 😥

Herbie was one of my earliest and most profound influences. I discovered the Sky records as a teenager and loved them all. His lines were a great example of what works best for the song. Anchoring the track, but never just background. Always impossible to ignore.

I was fortunate enough to meet him one time when he was in Edinburgh for the Festival. He was very friendly and genuinely delighted that I wanted to use a piece of his music at my wedding. He even took the effort to send me hard copies of the sheet music a couple of weeks later.

    RIP, Herbie.

  2. Many moons ago, my then band were doing quite well on the local Edinburgh scene, so we were put in as local support for a gig on that year's NME tour. The hope being that we would pull in our usual crowd as ticket sales hadn't been great.

The bands on the tour? Welsh outfit Terris and some bunch of lads called Coldplay...

To be fair, they were nice enough guys, albeit painfully shy. And utterly, terminally dull on stage. Fortunately Yellow was released about a week before the gig, so the place was absolutely rammed.

  3. Used to listen to 6 Music loads, in it's very early days. Think the listenership was around 100k then! Ended up winning a few prizes and had a long running, sporadic email conversation with Phil Jupitus about the merits of Jellyfish, and power pop in general.

Can't remember why I drifted away from it. Other than Craig Charles, I don't listen to it at all now... maybe time to give it another go!

I'm a sucker for Lake Placid Blue, so this ticks a lot of boxes for me, albeit not the "affordable" one. But that's what Santa is there for, no?

Also, never ever had a Thunderbird itch, but this is causing me to doubt that...

  5. I like the back, but if it's formed a skin, it's probably not worth trying to save. Good effort, though! 👍

Not as random as you were attempting, but I always thought the pendulum painting process could be very effective on a bass, especially given the contours of the body and non-regular outline. Something like this (apologies for the terrible music...):
