I was looking at some Sandbergs on Thomann, and I came across this little gem!
    http://www.thomann.d...ipe_bass_fl.htm

How much are kidneys these days?

It's insane that more people don't stock them here in the UK. After all look at the positives; Very well made, light, excellent sound, excellent feel, and above all, very reasonably priced! I actually can't think of a negative.
That's gorgeous! And same here, great basses. No negatives :)

I got to record through mine this weekend - both channels of my Mesa 400+ with a Sansamp GT2 between the bass and the high gain channel, into an Ampeg 810 with a room mic, close mic and DI and it sounded absolutely phenomenal. I've never been this happy with my bass tone. I was only playing simple lines - the songs needed simplicity - and it just dominated. Even pre mixing it sounded great :) . I'll post some sound samples when I get them :)

  2. Mostly just crappy customer service. Here ya go:

Oh really, i must have missed that! Can you link me to a thread? Might save me some hassle.....

The Basic should sell because it's a great bass, but I might have a problem if it hasn't sold in time to pay the balance!

I've been talking to Session Music, and they've been really helpful.

  3. Cab wise I just thought I'd throw this out there - I used to own two Epifani UL2 410s. They were light as a feather, sounded massive, and really let the musicality of my bass head come through :) . They were great cabs. I ran quite a rock tone through a Mesa big block 750 and it sounded great. They do come up every once in a while. Thought that might be an option - light but capable of competing with loud guitarists and a PA. Mine certainly did the job very well.

    Thanks

    Ash

My Sandberg JM4, IIRC Ash body, maple board with black blocks. Amazing player, sound, GREAT neck..

Heya, amazing looking bass there! Just joined the sandberg club myself and couldn't be happier :) . In all honesty though, I'll have to pass on the sandberg - only thing I would be looking for at the moment is a Hartke LH500 or an aguilar TLC compressor + money my way.

    Thanks!

Hoping to put the order in ASAP, but I don't know whether to order from Germany (cheapest) and hope that I sell my Greenburst Basic before I have to pay the balance, or pay a bit more and go through PMT who will take my Basic in part-ex (although they probably won't offer me much for it!). I need to decide which finish I want too of course!
Well... my issues with PMT have been well documented on here so I won't pass comment on them again! :P That basic is lovely though, sure you won't have any problems shifting it :) . Who you going through in Germany?

  6.
Well, Cherry Sunburst/Maple in the lead still, although Virgin White not far behind. Just realised they do the Brown burst high gloss on the KT too, might look nice with a maple neck...
Have to say I really like the brown burst on mine :)

    Alteady done dude! http://basschat.co.u...hoose-a-colour/

Yer bass looks awesome by the way! I had a blackburst Cali PM 4 last year and it was awesome, just didn't feel quite as good in my hands as a Basic. They are all incredible instruments, and when you think that you can order one to your spec for less than the price of a US Fender, it's a no brainer! I ended up selling everything else after I got my first one, I've been 100% Sandberg (main basses anyway) since November or December. I've had 4 in the last year! Now I've established which one works for me best, I'm aiming just to have two of those, and that's it!

Really couldn't imagine going back to Fender......
Neither can I. My geddy will stay around for sentimental reasons, but Sandberg really seem to have improved upon every aspect of the fender design. Germans, eh? :D . And I understand what you're saying, once my tour is over I'm going to be moving down to my geddy, the sandberg and my MTD. Have no need for anything else :) . Also I've voted! Whenabouts you hoping to put the order in?

I think that's the thing, the Glockenklang preamps are so transparent and the frequency selection is spot on. They are very natural sounding, and with the tone controls centered there's no difference in tone or volume between active and passive.
Never had a glockenlang preamp before this and I must say it is wonderful. Again, german engineering seems to be spot on!

By the way, your new bass looks great :) Sod Facebook buy some shares in Sandberg!
Definitely wouldn't mind! And thank you :) , I know they're not cheap basses by any stretch of the imagination but I really feel I'm getting a lot of bass for my money :) . How does yours sound? It looks amazing :) . Blue and maple is just a really lovely combination in my mind :) .

  9. ON HOLD (Tuesday 22nd May)

    Heya,

Up for sale is my lovely Spector. I bought it off Cetera so if that's not a seal of approval I don't know what is :P . Been well kept under my ownership, gigged a lot, but kept safe.

Sounds nice and meaty, can get a great grind out of it and also a nice smooth tone too. Nice fast neck, plays really well. Also the zebrano is gorgeous :) . The photos will never do it justice.

Hopefully cetera won't mind but I'm going to shamelessly steal photos from his original thread until tomorrow where I can upload my own.

MySpectors010.jpg - one on the left as you look at it.

Original for sale thread http://basschat.co.u...__1#entry699036 (from 2009! Wow!)

Looking for £750 OVNO. Delivery can be arranged though I'd rather not - I wouldn't trust a courier as far as I could throw one. I'm about the country a reasonable amount so a meet might be on the cards :)

Please feel free to post any questions or PM me :) .

My number is 07500 860710 if you want direct contact

My laptop packed in and since I'm mid exam season I had to go and buy another immediately. As a result, I can only do cash sales now. Please ignore the trade options below. Thanks! Ash

Glad you guys are both enjoying your Sandbergs! That looks lovely Greg, gotta be about the best colour choice for a California T IMO.

Ash, that's exactly how I felt when I got my first Sandberg; the necks are so good that your playing seems to improve because there's nothing inhibiting your playing. I've said it before loads of times, but I ended up selling my old faithful Fender Jazz after I got my first 'Berg, because the Jazz just felt really awkward and cumbersome to play in comparison!

    Any pics of yours Ash?

PrimeBass has just been converted to the ways of Sandberg too after buying my natural Basic 4; he's totally blown away with it!

Just need to decide what colour to order my new KT5 in now......... down to a choice of 3, but I am notoriously indecisive! Might have to start a poll.......
Please do :) . I like polls!

And yep, this thing is just great. I'm selling on some of my basses because of this (need to hold off on one due to tour commitments). It's that good. The neck just feels right in my hands :) . After today's band practice words cannot say how happy a camper I am :D .

  11. Some photos!

Just tried it at band practice. I ran it through both channels of my Mesa (with a sansamp GT2 on the high gain input) into my matamp 410.

    :o

This is absolute tonal perfection. The haussel pickups are phenomenal, and the growl and sheer absolute bloody PRESENCE of this thing is ridiculous! I was playing fingerstyle and was cutting through like a knife! I'm so unbelievably knocked over by this bass. I genuinely cannot believe how good this sounds and feels. The ebony neck is like butter. I'm selling my other basses. Between my MTD and this I've got every gig covered.

I'm recording with it on Sunday, can't wait! I'll try and post isolations of the bass tracks :) .

    Okay it arrived yesterday

The photo doesn't really do it justice as it was taken on my phone but its looks amazing and sounds even better. Really glad I went for block inlays in the maple neck, they look great.

The build quality is really good and the components feel really good quality.

Basically I love it. Highly recommended for any Jazz bass fans.

Session musik are great to deal with too.
That looks lovely! Really like the blocks :) . Got my hands on mine yesterday and it is phenomenal. Nicest neck I've probably ever played on a 5 string - it's extremely fast and after a few hours of thumping around on it last night I genuinely think I play better because of it. Haven't got to put it through an amp yet or take pictures but feel wise it's top notch. Also feels really well built. Extremely happy! Can't recommend it enough! I'll get a photo up later.

I know I've said this already but, seriously, the neck on this thing is to die for.

I had a first generation SVT4 (1998) and to be honest I was continually disappointed with it. If it didn't have the Ampeg logo on the front I'd have changed it much quicker. It was alright, but never had the authority that I felt it should, particularly given the huge wattage it parades so strongly.
Once I'd sold the SVT4 (and keep in mind I had it for 10 years so I gave it a good shot) I've had an SVP-Pro (so the preamp section) and separate generic poweramp and was faaaaaar more impressed with the tone it put out there. Crucially the SVP had a drive control whereas the SVT4 only had the basic gain level. It's just far more ballsy and can be pushed harder.

(This isn't meant as a plug, but aforementioned SVP and poweramp are in the for sale section at the moment, sadly)

EDIT: I was using a 410HLF too, and using Musicman and Warwick at the time.
Also owned an SVP and put it through a Mesa Strategy 400 (the power section of a mesa 400) and it was boss. Can recommend this too!

  14. Sorry to hear it was a scam, but I can weigh in on this since I used to gig with an orange bass terror running into a powerhouse 210. In short, yeah, small gigs it does great ;) . Awesome cab, sounds really good. I stacked it vertically and it sounded nice and big for its size. I kind of like being able to feel the bass behind me and I couldn't always do that with the cab, however if you went out into the crowd it felt and sounded really good.

Nothing on an 810 however, but there we go.
