1.
Of course it could actually be the same bass, although I seem to remember the back being more like the front, if you will. It's a long time ago though so I could be wrong; maybe they are one and the same? I'm pretty sure it was a factory finish because both MVPs were new old stock and this was years ago.
Are you sure it is not just as simple as it has sazt in the sun too long? That is what it looks like in th photos you posted.

Wish I had the bread, but that grain on the top is sorta an acquired taste, too.
Not wishing to diss the bass or anything.

Like I said, wish I had the bread.

Ivan - who fell in love with a Pentabuzz in 1982 and couldn`t justify buying one at the time!
I coulda had a redhead and the buzz for under $3K. *sigh*

2. I had a sunburst rosewood board `60 from new - well it was six or eight months old when I bought it for £60.
Off a guy who paid 80 guineas for it.
Wonder how many Brits even remember when we had guineas?
Still in the fender cardboard box as the case was too dear and also nto Fender!
I sold it in 1962 for £60. Bought a cheapo 335 copy for a guitar gig.
Could not afford to have more than one instrument.
Also later sold my Vox AC10 and `63 white with rosewood neck Tele when I switched back to bass again.
I could cry.

Does this one have that flat wide neck I recall?
A buddy in Nashville had the only other one I have liked as well.
Really wish I had £3k sitting around looking bored with nothing to do.

3. Very frustrating! I live within spitting distance of Slepe Hall but cant be 100% sure I can make it - have 93rd birthday (not mine) 30th wedding anniversary (mine) and a possible short notice trip to france to take care of business looming around then.

I really really hope I can get there especially since it is so close.

For fear of embarrassing myself, my battered old wrecks will be staying home and I will drool over some of the rest of you guy`s stuff if I make it.

Mind you, if it is really `orrid weather unexpectedly, I could put up one couple and an odd single for the night, always assuming we are there.

4.
These cabs are unreal, the volume and punch they produce. The 212 version has tons of low end. while the 210 has plenty.

Good luck with the sale.
Isobaric.... years ago I was involved loosely with the development of an Altec version o fthe Orange scoop cab.
Two 15", iin a box, one facing up one facing down and both firing into parabolic reflectors.
Very long throw but this was before big PAs were about in any numbers...
Reminds me of this a bit.

5. I drooled over one of these when they first arrived at Corner Music in Nashvegas....
Would still love one if I could afford it.
Mind you I guess it sorta depends on what the replacement speakers are, too.

I seem to remember them being around $1200 when they first hit the streets.

Nice amp bump bump

6. I was given a prototype bolt on Explorer with a precision pickup by the folks at Massman Drive years and years ago - still my main bass but arthritis makes it difficult to play these days.
That is 35" four string from the early eighties.
Oh and I had a luthier in Nashville add one of the earlier P/J sets from EMG at the same time.

I dont have any photos but will try and take one & post it next time I am home.

7. 1954. There is a church hall nearly opposite Edgeware Underground station with the word "truth" over the door only it is spelt TRVTH.
We did a jewish wedding reception in there.
Big fat old lady grabbed my guitar after the first set, claiming she was a great guitar player.
Proceeded to tune my guitar up..and up and up and up until a string broke.

But we did get ten shillings CASH between the five of us!

8. ye go! what a monster!!
My drummer picked it up and left it in his mum`s shed for me to collect on the way to the gig ( A country and western festival) AND BLIMEY THE THING HAS SOME BASS!
Sorry - my arthritis makes editing accidental capslock slips a pain.
Anyway it worked so well the organisers complained about too much bass after the first set - with a 100 watt trannie head set at about 2!

Still in two minds as to whether it gets sawn in half. Back says yes, heart says no.

Thanks again, Colin!

9.
Sold, subject to the usual :)
The Czech is not yet in the mail but will be sat morning - going to use the monster at a gig tonight- with a lab series amp at a paltry 100 watts.
At least it ought to sound period....

I suspect this will be gtetting the Hammond B3 treatment though.

Thanks again, senor!

10. Been in one or two music shops where sales assistant grabs bass from you, plugs it in and does his guitar shop pyrotechnics before casually handing you the instrument.

Wonder how many of them stop to think about how many potential sales they lose this way by doing something calculated to either embarrass or annoy the potential customer?

With fifty odd years playing experience under my belt, the last thing I need is some slap happy moron showing off whilst wasting my time.

What do I play?
The usual ordinary pedestrian lines we all play on our actual gigs.
No slap no tap no poppin`.... I never actually met anyone who got hired for a gig specifically because they could do that stuff, anyway.
And of course you play it unplugged first of all. Tone starts with the wood and the build.

11.
But at least the picture is "presente avec manche en palissandre" :)

According to Babelfish this means "present with handle in purple wood"

Ooo err missus
rosewood, mon pote.... like the other gent said.

dont ever go to france planning on getting a gig.
they dont even use abcdefg!
how`s your tonic solfa?

Doh a deer a female deer......
Or Homer Simpson drinking Duff.....

And another thing. The ebay link led me to a regular 4 string Jazzy Bass. What up?
Suoppose it is just because I am trawling the old stuff.

12. Traded my 4001 natural for a Travis Bean midnight blue sparkle.

Loved the sound of the Ricky, but it wore all the skin off my right forearm with that sharp edged purfling.

And predictably, I traded the TB for a Fender Rhodes, which I finallysold for $100 when returning to the UK.

I have more depressing stories like this but I`ll spare you the details.

13. A tale from the weird zone.

Chuck Jacobs and I got to see the very first Warwicks before they hit the retail market.
They sent him a fretted and a fretless cricket bat bass to use/try/keep and I was at his house the day UPS delivered them.
Both were lovely sounding, played beautifully and led me to have some rather large expectations of the final version......
Ah well.

14.
Trace 4x10 combo. Sounds like it needs fixing but could be a great buy. Used to have one of these - they sound HUGE.

He still has it.

had an intermittent fault for a long time, a bass player friend who `knows about amps` `fixed` it.

A few weeks alter all he gets is a hum and no audio.

I decided that even at 150 this is no bargain.

It might just be the driver transistors, but who knows?

If it had been £100 or less I might have bitten.

"Are ya feeling lucky, punk?"

15.
Welcome in Ivan, sounds like Bill Fitzmaurice's site may be the place for you.
