  1. Okay, so not quite £60. It was up for £110 delivered from cash convertors (a seller I often follow) and I had a £50 voucher.

To say it was minging was an understatement. Covid would have been the least dangerous thing lurking on the fretboard of this bad boy.

Took the sander to it and hit it with some Danish oil. A new set of tuners and and strings are we are in business.

    Sounds phenomenal!

Check out the before and after pics! Hopefully you'll be able to work out which is which!

  2. Reminds me, band I was in we used to put music on via a phone before, between and after so that it wasn't a shock when we began playing. One wedding gig our singer left his iPhone on random...we went out for a drink and when we came back we found the bride and groom desperately fiddling with the PA in an attempt to turn off chapter four of Harry Potter audiobook!

Set the tone for the rest of the gig, that one did...

  3. Hi folks,

I've an Ashdown Mag 420 Rootmaster 1x15" combo and would like to lose some weight and eek out more volume so am considering a speaker upgrade.

I'm thinking go for 4 ohm to squeeze out all the power and something relatively efficient so have been looking at the Faital Pro 15 PR400.

Anyone experience of doing this upgrade in the Mag combos and have any recommendations? The speaker is nearly the cost of the amp when j bought it so that gives me confidence it's probably better than what's in there but is it a good match for the cab?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi all,

I've just bought a Spectradrive which I use straight into our PA and I'm a little disappointed, perhaps. However I think it's my lack of understanding at fault...

I was expecting the pedal to simulate a good DI/Preamp so I could plug in and hear (through IEMs) natural sounding bass, but I think maybe what I actually need is an amp/cab SIM and not a preamp/DI? If I run it into an amp it sounds great but into the desk (or my interface) and it sounds flat and lifeless.

Can anyone recommend a simple to use plug and play pedal/box that basically just works without too much fiddling? I appreciate tone is subjective etc but I think I'm after a good approximation of that classic Trace Elliot sort of tone, chunky and authoritative but with real presence and bite?

I know this post is frustratingly vague but I suspect it's entirely my fault I don't like the Spectradrive and thus some knowledge from you chaps would doubtless help!

    Thanks in advance,

    James

  5. I'm mid way through a Harley Benton PB-50 project and now deciding what to do re the bridge. The current one is a generic (and unremarkable) mid-way between high mass and BBOT so that's going in the bin, but it's larger than your normal BBOT. I am thinking of going for something beefy to replace it so that I don't have an ugly mess where the old one was.

So, all things being equal - does string through body really impact the sound? Most high mass bridges I'm looking at seem to top load. Does it make a difference?

    Cheers,

    James

    Good luck 🤞

Cheers! I figure it will almost certainly be loud enough, it's just whether it will be deep enough to give the feel of the bass...I suspect that is where it will struggle, but it's better than what I do now (one IEM, one out so I can hear 'the room').

What I was HUGELY fed up of was huge bass speakers that you could hear from Grimsby, but stood right next to it, I may as well have unplugged...having a monitor firing back at me just for the bass tone should cure that at least.

  7. I've just ordered a Yamaha DBR12 for sort of this purpose. We are now 'ampless' as a band so I'll use the Yamaha as a monitor/amp when I can't be arsed with the IEM setup. Main signal will still go via the FOH but should mean I hear more of what the tone sounds like to the audience - that's the plan, anyway...

  8. Hi all,

Purchased from Andertons last week, it's an AMAZING looking thing but sadly I now have a four figure bill for the car so it must go.

It's in good condition but some light scratches to the back where a belt buckle has rubbed - unavoidable on this sort of finish.

Happy to either sell or part ex for another 5 string but must be fairly lightweight with a not-ridiculous neck and have some cash my way to go towards the car repairs.

Can post for £25 or collection from Worcester area (or meetup as I travel around a bit for work)
