I assume it's about tuners having different accuracies - opting for strobe types for accuracy etc.

Even so, I'd suggest that the majority of electronic tuners would agree about what was 'in tune' with each other better than human beings without perfect pitch (i.e. most of us mere mortals).

For giggles (I'm an insomniac at the moment) I tried four tuners together last night, two clip-ons, a Polytune from the jack socket and a Boss using a built in mic. They all roughly 'agreed' (i.e showed as 'in tune') but the two polytunes disagreed about whether it was 100% or not (still showed green but the headstock tuner showed being slightly sharp).

  2. Hi all,

Post a depressing visit to Bass Direct, I was spending the 1hr 30 in the car on the way back wondering...if you could ONLY have a bass that played like heaven OR sounded like it, which would you choose?

I think it's playability for me, I mean, even the worst of basses sounds roughly like a bass, right? As long as it plays well, I could see me coping with it but so many basses that I tried today sounded INCREDIBLE but played in a way I disliked.

It's all personal preference, so I don't expect us to be able to define what's good tone and bad tone and/or what defines 'plays well' (the forum would implode if we all agreed) but I'm curious to know.

    Cheers,
    James

  3. Hi all,

Returning back to the fold after a while on the dark side (drums!) I'm now wanting to get back into bass and need to sort myself a practise 'setup'.

    Requirements:

100% of it will be with headphones, playing along to audio from the PC (MP3 files and/or Spotify).

I have a nice(ish) set of headphones, so I'm thinking just get some kind of interface or pedal.

Any ideas? I know it's a bit vague but I'm a bit out of the loop so wanted to keep my options wide open!

    Cheers!
    James

  4. If it helps, I knew that when I had a bass delivered and it was packed INSANELY well - took me best part of 15 mins to actually get to it.

I think it's good that they are clear about the process - it's not their fault that couriers won't insure the package, so if you want to take the risk at least you are informed.

  5. Hi all,

For sale due to imminent house move!

Lovely bass, I've slightly rubbed down the back of the neck to smooth it out (not actually removed the lacquer, just smoothed it) and given it a setup and it plays GREAT. Doesn't seem to suffer from the distortion that some of these do but I have a replacement pot if you wanted to do the 'mod' outlined on the EB forums. I bought the pot before I bought the bass and decided not to bother as it sounds ace without!

Comes with scrappy Thomann hard case. £165? BARGAIN.

COLLECTION ONLY as I'm not home enough to arrange a courier I'm afraid. I'm based in Herefordshire, close to both the Worcestershire and Gloucestershire borders (Ledbury) so pop over and grab it quick!

    Cheers,
    James

  6. Hi all,

For sale due to imminent house move!

£200 - sounds amazing and super light. The only issue is the red power led doesn't work but that's been like it since I had it and never bothered me.

Few scuffs and scrapes from loading in and out so it wouldn't pass for new but the sound is what matters and the sound is GOOD :)

Collection from Herefordshire/Gloucestershire/Worcestershire and it's already priced to sell so cheeky offers won't fly I'm afraid ;-)

    Cheers!

  7. Consider yourself lucky. I put on a fresh set of strings...got to the gig, plugged in and tuned up, played a couple of daft little riffs to warm up...picked the bass back up to start the set and the strings were dead. And I don't just mean slightly. TOTALLY dead.

There's something most odd with my body chemistry.

    Hi all,

Sadly a mahoosive tax bill means I need to raise some cash, so this has to go.

It's a J&D Jazz but it's been upgraded with a Schaller 3D bridge and a better wiring loom (large pots and solderless)

It comes in a beaten but functional hard case at £125 collected (Ledbury in Herefordshire) or I can post for £20

    Cheers,
    James
