Ahh - sorry, got the two requests mixed up. Depends on the year for the K5, assuming 2008/9 (as the bridge went black after that),

The bridge is the 2BB1EB75AG, like this https://www.drumsetc.com/content/ibanez-eb7-5-string-bass-bridge-gold-2bb1eb75ag

The tuners are actually just hipshot tuners, not ibanez, so normal gold hipshot L2R3, part is 2MH1CH223G, but they are just a hipshot, so go by size

and the knobs are 4KB1JB20WB as used on almost all ibanezes with stacked knobs between 2005 - 2015. And I suspect the same as the current ehb, which would be easy to check as I have an EHB and an SR1000 which has them.

I have used them before, and they are good

Thanks for looking into this. I saw those two websites too but would prefer to keep the ordering within Europe as the website in the first link is in the US and the second website does not ship Ibanez parts to UK.

Headstock Distribution got back to me today and suggested me to contact Max Cottam at http://www.cottamguitars.co.uk/ as he's one of UK's biggest Ibanez spare parts dealer.

I’ve had success ordering direct from Ibanez in the past.

Thanks - just dropped Headstock Distribution an e-mail

Last time I tried, I found the most successful way was to look up the part number in the ibanez catalogue, then search on ebay or the rest of the net.

I did that last night but couldn't find anything, especially the stacked knobs in black :(

  3. Hi all,

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Kiesel JB4 choosing a selection of options from their catalogue. Quite surprised there isn't more talk about Kiesel basses here. Aware they were called Carvin in the past and since Jeff Kiesel came on board he decided to split the brand into Carvin and Kiesel.

Has anyone had any experiences with them? Anyone ordered a their build directly from them? How was the experience?

    Cheers!

Apart from the specific balanced tension sets that D'addario make - I found that the perfect set using single strings is 45, 60, 80, 110 and although it's slightly lower tension I use a 135 B when the need arises

Is that for standard tuning on 4 and 5 string? I’m using 55, 75, 90, 110, 160 on a 34” inch scale Ibanez 5-string for drop G# tuning. It’s not bad but the G, D and A string is abit tight for my liking.

The basics behind this tension thing is to replace thickness (gauges) with tension. Instead of 40/60/80/100 with equal tension is a nobrainer. I think you just have to understand these together, as we have been discussing decades about gauges and gauges only. Another thing is that do you need this one number of tension, or can you live with several thickness numbers and those varying lbs.

That’s precisely it. I have those exact gauges for drop A# on my Dingwall NG2 but the .40 and .80 strings are too stiff for my liking therefore too high of a tension. Apparently those strings have a high tension in terms of feel and vary in all sorts of Ibs of tension too.

So I worked out with the specific gauges i’m looking to get I’ll need to buy the strings separately from Newtone strings and the recommended gauges give the right Ibs of tension too.

So overall if all works out I should get equal tension across all strings with the right amount of Ibs of tension on the neck too that’s not too light nor heavy hence a balanced tension.

  6. Hi all,

I’ve recently been geeking out on the idea of replacing my current strings with some balanced tensioned ones.

I noticed certain gauges are tighter when I tune to drop G# on my 5-string specifically with the G, D and abit on the A string. Found Newtone strings, a UK supplier of strings and saw they manufacture any sized gauges up to .200

After some research I found the gauges on what apparently is the perfectly balanced tensioned strings.

Has anyone done this sort of experiment and what were your results? Doesn’t have to apply to drop tuning you’ve done this experiment on.

Then as I said, he needs someone to keep it sorted. If you are in business and you are too busy to reply to your customers, you need to find someone who isn't.

For the sake of delivering excellent customer service, I totally agree with this.

I don't want to return the bass I think. I really like the neck, and other things. But yes, I want some kind of compensation or solution for the problems.

    Thank you

Agree with you. If you don’t want to return the bass then some compensation must be done with a few of these issues.

  9. Strings don’t have to align over the poles as the vibrations of the string will be picked up by the magnets when you play. I have a jazz bass that’s like this and it plays absolutely fine :)

The damages on the Maruszcyk is not good. I would ask Adrian to give you some money back for the imperfections or send the bass back for a 100% full refund. The customer service reply from him is absolutely terrible too. This puts me right off from wanting to order from him... might go with a Kiesel now.

This is worrying really. I've been pondering whether to order a Maruszcyk Elwood bass and been reading the bigger thread we have here that some users have received their basses with some defects. If this doesn't happen on a £300 instrument then it shouldn't happen on a £2k+ instrument.

I've also wanted to order a Nitro finish on the Maruszcyk too. Not fussed if it's shiny or what not but I believe the finish should wear nicely the more you play it like some folks mentioned above.

Be interested to see what Adrian has to say about that hairline defect.

  11. It works now! Weird it just suddenly worked yesterday :/ I guess I just had to restart my laptop as I gave up the night before then switched it on yesterday.

Struggling to get a good tone from the pedal now though compared to what I've heard online. Messing around with the settings to shape something.

Hi Ellis, thanks for the detail, very helpful. If I hadn't ramped up the collection she'd be staying with me but I seem to be favouring my old Yamahas at the moment and I've still just got the 2 hands!🤣

Did you go for the USA jazz you were contemplating?

Likewise if I wasn't moving onto 5-string I would had kept this too :( I'm sure she'll find a good home somewhere and be put to good use!

Not yet. I ended up getting a Dingwall NG-2 for the time being :) Scrapped the idea of a USA Jazz but should be getting a Maruszczyk Elwood before the end of the year though.

  13. @Booga13sorry to hear you didn't get on with this bass.

I was the original owner of this bass and it has served me extremely well during my ownership.

    The specs are as follow:

Body wood - Alder or Mahogany I believe (from memory). It's definitely one of the two but I can't remember which one I went for
Neck - 5 piece neck with a white satin finish. It plays just as fast as any satin finished neck. If you look closely you can clearly see it's a 5 piece neck too
Pickups - Seymour Duncan SSB-4B Phase II soapbar pickups
    Bridge - Gotoh J510SJ-4 (19mm string spacing)

Everything on the specs is correct as listed above.

  14. Hi all,

Recently bought a used Darkglass Alpha-Omega Ultra pedal with the intention of recording this through my Focusrite Scarlett Solo.

I wasn't getting great results connecting the Darkglass 1/4 output to the Focsurite 1/4 instrument input then plugging my bass to the Darkglass 1/4 input.

So I read on another bass forum I could connect the Darkglass XLR output and run it into the microphone XLR input on the Focusrite. I purchased a cheap XLR cable, connected the two devices together (See picture) but as I loaded up Logic Pro I got no sound from this connected method.

Anyone know what's up here? Or is this completely wrong?

    Thanks

  15. Hi all,

Looking into an Ibanez Premium 5-string bass but I've searched high and low to see if anyone has any feedback on Ibanez's 'Low Gloss' finish but to no result.

What sort of finish is this? Is it something between a high gloss and satin finish? As it looks quite shiny already do the areas where you play (forearm, thumb rest on top of pickup) get glossy/oily? What about cleaning it? Can I clean it with regular guitar polish and a microfibre cloth?

Keen to hear how existing Ibanez owners get on with this finish.

    Thanks

  16. Hi all,

Great to see this Maruszczyk thread going well!

Thinking of getting one of these basses but just want to ask whether it was easy to send the bass back if there’s a fault with it? Sorry to sound negative but as I was browsing through the pages I noticed a few people had issues with their orders (bad neck, cheap screws and forgotten options are the ones I read). As you all agree £1,500k+ is quite an investment so just wondering if it was easy to communicate and send the bass back if any fault. It’s not like I can just pick up the phone and call a place I ordered from in UK.

For the people who had a dodgy bass, did they cover the shipping back to Poland?

    Thanks
