I have the 210 combo and it gets plenty loud and has punch in the lower notes that most class d combo's lack.I like it a lot

Just out of interest, do you notice any fan noise when using the amp at household volume levels?

I am thinking about getting the Katana Bass later in the year but a noisy fan would be a deal breaker.

With this and the new Postive Grid Spark Mini there's certainly some great practice amp options to be had.

If the Katana has a pitch shifter, I'll be very, very interested. It'll save me having to set my helix up just practice a couple of tunes with dropped tuning.

If it has a completely flat "FRFR" mode, then even better.

apparently it has an octave, don't know about a pitch shifter. It has a flat mode for use with a pedal board or preamp.

  3. Its a shame they didn't base the preamp on the Transit B ( minus its overdrive and added a chorus ).

A light weight cabinet with a 15, an 8 and a tweeter would have been cool, or a stack with a single 15, a pair of 10s and a bright box even better.

The amp looks nice but the only thing that sets it apart from an oversaturated market is the pretty lights.

  4. I am thinking of treating myself to a new bass combo/compact head and speaker this year and, as it will be for mainly low volume home use (plus possibly some band work) I would like it to  be fan less, or with a very quiet fan.

The budget is £1000 but I could possibly stretch a little further.

I would be buying new as I would like a warranty for peace of mind.

The PJB BG400 and Bass Cub pro are two of the combos I am thinking of and for head/speaker the Genzler Magellan 350 bass array 10-2 looks tempting.

What else on the UK market should I be looking at?

This will be the last amp I intend to buy and do not want to make an expensive mistake.

  5. Any Genzler Magellan 350 combo users here?

The 10-2 combo looks and sounds sweet in the demo videos, almost enough for me to pull the trigger and buy one.

It will be for home/studio use as I do not intend to gig with it.

    Has anyone here used one?

  6. The grille cloth on these amps seems to deteriorate over age regardless of the way they have been handled. (fades to grey and the silver detail becomes transparent).

It is a simple job to replace it.

I simply used a small Allen key to pull the grille frame off and used the back of an old black t shirt stretched and pinned to inside of the frame and all is well.

The original style of grille cloth can be bought if you have a look online.

Great sounding amps, classic Ampeg plus works well with an outboard preamp for more modern tones.

Do you experience a volume boost with yours also?

Yes I do but as I am running a Trace Elliot Transit B first in my chain I engage its compressor and this cancels it out and also stops any clipping during the peak of the phasers swell.

  8. A Trace Elliot SM GP7 1 x 15 combo has come up for sale locally.

I am tempted, very tempted but would like some info on it age, just how good they are, what to look/listen for when trying it out and any general advice about this particular combo.

The seller says it is fully working and the pics show it to be in decent condition with no rust on the metal corners or handles.

It has the carpet like covering and red detail behind the grille.

He is asking for £190 ono.

Do these particular amps have any known issues? If there was a problem would it be easy to repair?

  9. Are there any users of the Ashdown c112-300 combo on here please?

I am looking far second amp for backup and feature wise it ticks all the right boxes, (apart from country of origin).

Hoping to convince the wife it is a good idea to treat myself to one as a birthday present in mid April.

  10. I have just bought a block logo MXR Phase 90 and noticed some distortion when playing.

Has anyone tried the R28 mod on this pedal and use it for bass please?

I love the Phaser apart from the clipping I get.

  11. 300 watts of bi-amped solid state power.

    200 watts into a 1 x 15 Celestion Sidewinder 15 in a bass reflex cab and 100 watts in a  2 x 8 inch powered  cab .

At the time it sounded awesome, so much so that many people said it was the best bass sound they had ever heared.

I sold it to a guy in the South Wales valleys.
