  1. I am thinking of getting a Harte kickback 12 mk ii, are there any users on this forum that can give me an opinion on them please?

I would be using it at home mostly so be be using at low volume levels.

  2. Just looking for suggestions for upgrading the pickups in a Fender player series Jazz Bass, 2022 model.

I play finger style, I never use a plectrum as I can't hold one for long due to an arthritic thumb on my right hand.

I would like something with a nice bumpy mid range tight lows and crisp, but not harsh highs.

I may consider actives but not too important as I use a MXR m81 preamp pedal for tweaking.

I have been looking at Seymour Duncan and Bartolini but not too sure on which models to get.

I tend to play Jazzy/funky stuff and occasional forays in to rock (not metal).

  3. I am looking for opinions on the Sterling stingray 35 bass.

One has come up for sale locally for £650 and looks the business.

Has anyone here got or tried one?

It has a Koa body and rosewood fretboard.

I am thinking of treating myself to something this weekend and am thinking of either this, the Bacchus jazz bass or BOSS WAZA Air.

  4. Has anyone tried the BOSS Waza Air Bass headphone system with an active bass?

I am thinking of investing in the BOSS system for silent practice with my Spector Euro 4LX.

I have heard of problems with the BOSS Waza Guitar system with active 6 string guitars, was hoping the bass version would be without problems.

Actually having played an original Shergold Marathon 6 sting bass back in the day and owning one of the Eastwood models I can say that unlike most of what Eastwood produce, this version is very accurate, and Peter Hook appears to agree with me.

That means unfortunately you can also spin the value the other way and ask why you would pay a premium for an old battered bass when you can buy a very accurate brand new version of it for £1300.

The original will always be more desirable and valuable than a later asian built copy (licensed or not).

  6. Well, I picked up my repaired neck today and fitted it, restrung the bass and waiting for it to settle in before fine tuning the action.

Andy has done a nice job with the repair and I am grateful for his kind offer to carry out the work for  cost of parts as, without him the bass would likely have been out of action for the foreseeable future as there would be little chance of me being able to afford the extortionate cost of a luthier repair or manufacturer replacement.

The world would be a far better place if there were more people like Andy living on it.

What a guy! He kept me fully informed right through the process and promptly returned the neck to me.

Many thanks to him and the bass chatters that recommended him.

So glad that I am a member of this forum as it has been a true lifeline to me.

That's a nice bass, and actually deserves the word "rare" in the description too!

Does the active circuit have a trim pot to adjust the level by any chance?

I haven't bothered looking to be honest. may have a look later.

  8. Yeah,  only the 4 stringers were in the catalogue.

As a matter of fact, I also own a Spector Euro (4 string), and, indeed , the Baron does compare in quality and sound albeit a little more flexible particularly on its bridge pickup.

String to string balance is as good or even slightly better than my Maruszczyk Elwood L5a Special.

The only minus point to the Baron is the pickups and active circuit are more than a little bit quiet.

I remedy this by running it through a MXR M81 preamp.

  9. I was offered a trade for an unwanted fretless bass from a local player.

I was more than a bit sceptical at first but, upon trying it out decided it was a decent deal.

From Tanglewood of all people, not a name associated high end gear but, with a Maple and Wenge neck through construction it seemed to be a decent enough instrument.

Admittedly, the Mighty Mite PUPs and active circuit are rather low output (I remedied this by running it through a MXR M81 preamp) but the sound and playability are as good or even better than anything else I have owned.

These things are pretty rare, only 24 being built and it never appeared in any catalogue or adverts as it was such a short run (I think they also made 221 4 stringers and only 5 6 stringers).

I restrung it with Dadarrios and have been paying it all day.

It has a great, smooth sound with sustain for days along with great playability.

    • Does anyone else on here own one?

  10. Actually, they didn't even bother to ask if I was the first owner or if it was under warranty.

They simply stated that they were too busy to do repairs but would fit a new neck.

It is surprising that a bolt on neck has to be individually fitted by them and is not interchangeable

Such a shame as it is a beautiful instrument.

  11. Well, it no is no worse than before adjustment.

Gonna try a lighter gauge set of strings and then decide weather to have the rod replaced or not.

What bothers me most is the fact that Marusczyk won't repair it, they will only change the neck (at my cost).

My bass is a special with the headstock wood grain matching the body and PUP covers, it is unlikely they will be able to give a convincing match.

The guy I bought it from won't respond to messages, surprise surprise.

If it was me I'd contact Adrian and see what his take is,  expecting nothing, and then contact Andy about a repair

They, I believe, build each instrument individually so neck pockets and screw positions are not standardised, so a new neck won't be straightforward as whoever does it will have to have the body too, repairing the original neck may be the easiest option

Yes, Adrian says to send it back for replacing the neck at my cost (presumably), the problem is that my bass is a special with a burled maple top, pickup covers and matching headstock.

I think that at the end the the day a repair may be the best option if I want the headstock to match the rest of the bass.

    Gutted about this.

    Who is Andy?

Do you have contact details please?

  13. Well. it has just happened to me too.

I bought a used Elwood l5a last year and only recently tried to set it up as the action was very high.

Initially the truss rod was loose with no tension.

I managed to get it to bite but the neck bow stayed  unchanged (I left it a day between half turns and even slackened the strings).

Admittedly it was a bit tight to turn but now it is spinning freely again.

Such a shame as it is /was a beautiful bass.

I don't know what to do about this.

What would be cheaper/better, a repair or a new neck?
