  1. I was referring more to the idea of watching bands on TV, not knowing who they were and thinking male musicians were female - kind of smacks of watching Top of the Pops with my late Grandparents in the late 70s / early 80s. Let the record show that I do actually feel reasonably young still. I'm just a bit out of touch & that's no bad thing

  2. Me too, but no. I helped get £80 off my singer's cheapie Epiphone about 18 months ago but they would not budge on my last 2 purchases - the far more expensive USA P-bass (reason - it was heavily discounted already) & a MIJ Jag bass (credit crunch was the reason - even when I mentioned a mere £30 difference in a shop I'd been to that morning)

It depends on your idea of decent. The Squier Classic Vibes are good instruments and are
really well priced-but some people won't look at them because they say Squier on the
    headstock.
Some people think £2k for a Rickenbacker is decent, others think they are horrible.

Don't go looking at instruments by price. Try them all.... you may be surprised at
the one's you like the most.[/quote]

I whole heartedly agree. I own a Rickenbacker & it is lovely. It felt like I was buying into a lifestyle when I bought it. However with a good set up etc a £300 bass can play brilliantly

  4. Try as many as you can and go with what feels right for you. If you can't play too much at the moment just try holding it and seeing how it feels. Owning a musical instrument is a very personal thing and you should just enjoy the hunt for that all important first one.

Welcome to Bass.... Welcome to Basschat
