1. If I come into some money soon I will be ALL OVER this!
  2. Thanks for all the help people. Was a dodgy valve. Just pulled it out. Sounded fine. Thanks again, really appreciated.
  3. just used my new (second hand) mesa for the first tiome in practice and it didn't go so good. Was just delivered on Monday. The issue: left it for a good 7-8 mins to warm up then took it off stand by. messed around with the settings a little then we started playing a tune. 3 notes in it cuts out. checked the fuse and it was blown... replaced this fuse. Second time, pretty much exactly the same. Waited less time before taking it off standby though coz the tubes were already warmed up. Replaced the fuse. switched to the other output jack. Third time struck the first note before even playing a song and blew another fuse. Was using it with an 8ohm trace elliot cab out of one of the 8 ohm jacks? is this correct? Can anybody help me with trouble shooting this problem as i've got a gig tomorrow and i'd really like to play it. My thoughts are that i could be loose tubes or the wrong output jack? can anybody help plese?
  4.
I really like that, always thought the non-export Aerodynes were the best looking Jazz basses.
agreed, the only downside is that because of the 'unique' curved radius you can't put on a badass with out surgery. It does look sexy though.
  5. I'm going away for a week. If you are interested please get in touch with me by text: 07775775843. I think I'm taking the bass with me so if you are in the m6 area or en route between Scotland and Swansea give me a shout! Huw
  6.
Hiyah Where are you?
I'm in Aberdeen, Scotland. I'm coming down your way this week though. I'll be staying in Swansea.
  7. I bought this 'Crafted in Japan' bass a couple of years ago now... must have been some time in '07. So I'd say its almost exactly 2 years old. It's got its fair share of bumps and bruises (buckle rash, couple of paint chips), but it's all aesthetic still plays really well. However, the bass still looks absolutely gorgeous and if I could afford to, I'd keep it on its looks alone. This is the Japan only non-export model (which in my opinion looks one hundred times better than the other ones) which means it's got chrome knobs (neck vol, bridge vol, tone), control panel and tuners, a 3 ply (black-white-black) scratch plate and a curved radius top. The finish is black with a cream binding and a matching black headstock. I repeat... it looks great. Will consider trades and part-ex for any Fender Jazz bass. Will sell for 425 inc. courier and gig bag Huw Entire bass

Body

Headstock

The strings are back on, i was just giving it a clean. The rest of the pics can be found at Photobucket It isn't in mint condition, but still plays fine and looks great.

  9.
Would highly recomend the highway1's...they sound awsome and are a great price. (PIC:-Sunburst jazz on the right of avatar) Also the parts are USA made which is bonus (if i remember rightly they make the body and neck in the states then send it to mexico for assembely) And the new ones are already fitted with a badass bridge. Sadly the machine heads are plain "economy" style ones, the same they use on squiers...they get the job done but i could recomend replacing them.
cheers for the info man. I knew it was essentially the same hardware as a American Jazz bar a couple of components. The guy I was talking to today said that he played an MIA and his Highway One side by side and he preferred the Highway One... at £549 you can't really go wrong?! Need to get on the scout for some second hand ones.
  10. I tried out a Fender Highway One Jazz today. Exactly the sound I'm lookoing for. Hopefully get one soon.
  11.
+1 for trying a heavier gauge of string with the low tuning.
In that case, Matt, your services will be require again soon! I'm not gonna buy a new valve amp and still have my bass sound gash!
  12.
Different strings? Have to say I've not had a problem under normal tuning with the G string. And you can fit a badass to an Aerodyne, I did to mine for a little bit (and even wrote about it if you check the BadAss FAQ in Repairs and Technical Issues), you just need to create a shim, ideally of hardwood or metal to fill the recessed cavity and then you can mount the badass so it makes proper contact. It will damage the finish though if you want it to be as flush as possible to the other raised bits of the body and you do it up tight. Or you can route out a bigger area, but that's a permanent mod.
by the bottom string i meant pitch-wise i.e. the 'E' string ('D' in my case), sorry! i've got round wound stainless steel ones on at the moment. there rotosound though, so i might try and get my hands on a new set. re: putting in a shim, wouldn't that raise the action to quite a height? also... i'm useless with mods/diy of any variety cheers for the help though
  13. So i'm playing one of the Japanese only ones I think, with the curved top (which means i can't put a Badass on it without surgery) The problems I've been having all the while with this bass are that the bottom string gets really 'warbley' for want of a better word. It's pretty alright open all the way up to fret 5 or 6 then it just starts to sound pretty nasty. This isn't helped at all by the fact i tune down to DAdG, but I unfortunately need those two notes for my band. I replaced the pickups with wizrd PJs and this improved the tone quite a bit, even on the bottom string, but the more i play it, the less happy with it I get (Andy from Wizrd pickups did a great job though. The bass has been properly set up and all that stuff, but it just ain't giving me what I want. As of late i've been thinking about upgrading my head to something real nice like an orange Ad200, but I'm worried incase I experience the same bottom string problems. Any advice? time for a new bass?
  14. I have the benefit of living in the same city as Matt. He has set up my bass and installed pickups for me in the past (as i'm totally useless at this sorta stuff). A gent, a knowledgeable gent! his project/otherwise bass collection os smart too!

Hullo, Joined here because its an absolute wealth of information. Folk seem friendly too, which is great coz these kinds of things can get pretty snidey and elitist at times. Been playing bass as long as I've been playing in bands (about 4 years), but i started off playing guitar. I used to play in a band called Fault and Fracture (post rock/metal meets euro skramz) and I now play in a band called A Guy Called Guy (diy punk/emo thing). The name is subject to much debate! Myspace can be found[post="0"]here[/post] My technique is terrible and I use a pick... I look like a guitarist playing a bass. I strive for brilliant tone, but have fallen short so far. At the moment I'm playing a Fender Aerodyne Jazz (the Japan export only with the curved top and the CHROME!) with Wizrd Pickups into a Boss TU2 into an Ampeg SVT III pro into an Ampeg B410 HLF. Other gear I've used includes a TC Electrinic Vintage Overdrive and a Sansamp BDDI. I also have interests in recording and watching smart gigs. So yeah...! Huw
  19. Is it loud for a 100 watter? Keep up with guitar and drums unmiced in small-medium gigs? (noOb!)
  20.
Is there any particular reason you've duplicated your for sale thread which is in this same section? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=45633 Thanks
Is this still for sale?
